**DUTES & RESPONSIBILITIES**

1. To provide a full and comprehensive venepuncture and sampling service with due regard to procedures governing safe clinical practice, confidentiality, cross infection and Health & Safety and to show respect for the dignity and comfort of the patients at all times.

2. To provide an efficient and accurate sampling service on all patients including children, adults, elderly, confused mentally and physically disabled patients within the practice setting. Ensuring that all specimens are despatched to the laboratory without delay.

3. To be individually responsible for carrying our procedures for the labelling and recording of specimens ensuring accuracy and safe practice according to established protocols.

4. To be fully competent in venepuncture following suitable training according to established protocols.

5. To have full working knowledge of blood collection tubes, forms and systems.

6. To have a thorough knowledge of the appropriate range of tests for each container and to ensure that appropriate blood volumes are collected.

7. To carry out additional procedures involving special tests according to standard operating procedures and the laboratory manual protocols.

8. To understand and carry out all duties in accordance with Health & Safety regulations including reporting and documentation of accidents.

9. To work as part of a multidisciplinary team liasing with medical, nursing, administration and laboratory staff.

10. To communicate effectively with patients, parents and relatives so as to provide reassurance and minimise stress in line with patient confidentiality

11. To understand and implement when required blood spill protocol and management of same.

12. Reporting adverse incidents in line with practice protocol.

13. Adhere to practice protocols and guidelines in all areas of work

14. Restocking and ordering correct levels of stock at all times to ensure delivery of service. Checking all consulting rooms at the start of each day to ensure stock levels are adequate.

15. Cleaning and maintenance of clinical equipment.. Reporting faults in line with practice protocol.

16. Correct disposal and replacement of sharp bins in line with policies and procedures.

**Job Type**: Part-time
Part-time hours: 25 per week

**Salary**: £24,114.75-£26,005.35 per year
