The Forensic Information Databases Service (FINDS) administers national systems that identifies links between forensic evidence found at scenes of crime and arrestees (and on occasion other individuals such as vulnerable persons and missing persons), ultimately ensuring the integrity of records held on multiple national Forensic Information Databases (FIND) - the National DNA Database, IDENT1 (fingerprints) and the National Footwear Database).

**Job description**:
The FINDS Data Officer supports the delivery of National DNA Database (NDNAD) and National Footwear Database (NFD) services to Law Enforcement Agency (LEA) customers and other partners in line with defined quality, business, and service standards.

This is a critical role for maintaining public confidence in Forensic Information Databases, for the purposes of supporting policing in reducing crime, maintaining order, and bringing criminals to justice.

Due to the nature of the role, this post is available on a full-time basis only.

**Person specification**:
Responsibilities include:

- Ensures that the FINDS Services meet customer requirements, operational changes are delivered in line with these requirements, and that the driving forward for service improvements.
- Performs data processing activities for all first line data processing activities within FINDS as stated in the Statement of Requirements and the associated KPIs.
- Provides second line support to NDNAD/NFS Operations by using the information available on PNC and NDNAD/NFS to respond to specific investigations with limited supervision.
- Ensures they process data accurately to ensure the integrity of the FINDS services.
- Provides a proactive customer engagement culture by operating the front-line operational contact point and providing detailed response to more complex customer queries.
- Identifies and suggests ways for improving the customer experience and to promote continual improvement of the integrity of the records on forensic information databases.
- Supports changes to the system, which includes participation in acceptance testing for the database functionality, and ensures they understand changes to the service and keeps their knowledge of the processes up to date.
- Maintains a good working relationships with customers and partners, including Home Office colleagues, Law Enforcement Agencies (in England and Wales, Northern Ireland, and Scottish Police Association), CPS, Forensic Service Providers, and suppliers of the database systems.

**Essential criteria**
- A strong customer focus, good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively influence partners.
- Demonstrable ability to analyse large amounts of information effectively and present findings from it clearly and concisely.
- IT competent and proficient in the use of MS office.
- Understanding of priorities and policy in the policing and criminal justice sector.

**Desirable criteria**
- Knowledge of the drivers, targets, and measures of business performance in a service environment.
- Experience of working to a regulated environment, possibly involving forensic science or within law enforcement agencies.
- Understanding of managing data integrity within the policing and criminal justice sector.
- Experience in data analysis to identify trends.
