Bristol Zoological Society, the conservation and education charity that runs and operates Bristol Zoo Project, higher education programmes and conservation projects across the world, is recruiting a Learning and Engagement Officer for its native species project Avon Gorge and Downs Wildlife.
The Avon Gorge and Downs Wildlife team delivers high quality engagement to the people of Bristol on the wealth of amazing wildlife on our doorstep on the Downs and in the Avon Gorge. Your role will encompass planning and delivering to school children and play-schemes outside on the Downs during the spring/summer/autumn months of the year and to pre-school age children and their adults all year round. In addition you will aid in the planning and delivery of engagement with the general public of all ages through walks, talks, holiday sessions and community events. Finally you will be responsible for managing the many volunteers who help us with our variety of sessions.
You will have proven experience in delivering curriculum linked wildlife education to primary aged children as well as a passion for conservation and British wildlife. You will expect to spend some days outdoors with groups on the Downs and other days working on planning and administration in the office. You will need to be proactive, knowledgeable, approachable, computer literate and enjoy responding to a wide variety of ages and audiences. You should be equally happy leading the pre-school group and their adults on a wet day as you are delivering a high quality curriculum-linked session to a school group in the summer or helping out with an early evening adult wildlife learning session. Core hours are daytime weekdays but on occasion you will be asked to work on an evening or weekend, with time off taken in lieu.
