The Suffolk Councils are delighted to have secured £2.3M of funding from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) to deliver a 2-year programme focussed on private rented homes across our County. The programme is being hosted by East Suffolk Council, but we are driven by commitment and enthusiasm from East Suffolk, Ipswich Borough, Babergh District, Mid Suffolk District and West Suffolk Councils. We are building a growing team of key stakeholders to help us with engagement, data, marketing and communications, training and research into outcomes.

All of our work will lead to an improvement in standards in the private rented homes and a better understanding of the pressures and problems in the sector.

We currently have an opportunity to join East Suffolk Council's Private Sector Housing Project Team as an **Engagement Officer (Tenancy Relations and Communities)**

We are very excited to have this amazing opportunity and have already appointed the Programme Manager and the Business Support Officer. Being a member of this dynamic team will provide key experience in being part of an area-based project with the community at the heart of its objectives. This role will provide a unique opportunity to gain experience in working proactively to empower tenants and property professionals by engagement and effective multi-agency working.

Working closely with Generation Rent, a national charity for private renters and our communication and marketing provider, you will be building general awareness of both the project and the role Council’s play in supporting tenants in the private rented sector. This ambassadorial role will be critical in the early stage of the project to support the later phases of work where access to inspect homes will be needed.

Your support to tenants will be varied but will include issues with their tenancy, landlord relationship, rights and responsibilities, fuel debt and other financial issues. You will be the key contact for any cases of harassment or illegal or retaliatory eviction. You will develop good knowledge of local partners and signpost to local support.

Liaising with existing Community Teams and voluntary groups across Suffolk you will build a network of support to focus on Private Sector Housing issues and understand any overlap or opportunities to maximise engagement or impact.

You will work closely with the team who will be carrying out inspections of housing standards, the landlord engagement officer and other Council teams. We are looking for a self-starter with a background in supporting individuals with housing related issues, who cares about housing and its impact on heath and communities as well as wider health inequalities. We need a compassionate individual, with resilience, who enjoys a challenge and delivering shared goals.
