Hinxton, United Kingdom Wellcome Sanger Institute Full time

Do you want to help us improve human health and understand life on Earth? Make your mark by shaping the future to enable or deliver life-changing science to solve some of humanity’s greatest challenges.

About the Role:
We have an opportunity for an Advanced Research Assistant for a 3 year fixed term position.

You will support the development of experimental workflows of a largely collaborative project funded by

Open Targets

, which aims to use CRISPR tools to link gene perturbations through transcriptional programmes to cell functions in primary immune cells. We are interested to map how up
- and down-regulation of gene activity affects function of different immune cells.

You will be responsible for:
- All aspects of CRISPR screens, including cloning libraries, inducing perturbations and culture immune cells, including T cells.- Working closely with other members of our team and the project to establish immune cell phenotyping assays, including single cell transcriptional readouts. The project team includes multiple groups with diverse expertise in immunogenomics and cutting edge gene editing.

About Us:
Our group combines experimental and computational methods to better understand gene regulation and function of the human immune system in health and disease. We are passionate about translational research and we work closely with Open Targets to advance our findings towards drug discovery pipelines.

We focus on dissecting the impact of genetic variants in the control of the immune system and what cellular effects underlie the variants that predispose individuals to immune mediated diseases. We systematically employ multimodal approaches such as single-cell transcriptomics and proteomics coupled with phenotypic CRISPR screens to map gene regulation to cellular functions.

About You:
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated research assistant with molecular and cellular biology expertise to provide experimental, scientific and operational support to our immunogenomic projects in the

Trynka Lab

at the Wellcome Sanger Institute.

Essential Skills:
- Degree in Cellular Biology, Molecular Biology or related discipline or equivalent experience- Research experience and technical skills in molecular and cellular biology- Experience in gene modulation technologies (e.g. CRISPR, siRNA, shRNA)- Ability to communicate ideas and results effectively- Excellent prioritisation and time management skills, and ability to organise own workload- Effective team player with strong interpersonal skills- Evidence of ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary environment.

Desirable Skills:
- Experience in human cell culture, including immune cells- Experience in single cell technologies

Other Information:
Salary per annum: £31,379-£37,707

Application Process:
Applications will be considered on an ongoing basis so the role may close early when a successful appointment has been made.

Closing Date: 10th March 2023

Informal inquiries can be made directly to

Carla Jones.
