We are looking for an active person who likes to work outside in all weathers to join our small friendly team. As part of the role, you will carry out repair and maintenance work to council properties, grounds and facilities.

Ideally you will have experience in carrying out DIY maintenance work to a high standard, knowledge and experience in operating hand tools. You will have the ability to lift and undertake heavy manual tasks.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic able to work well as part of a team but also able to work independently.

You must have a full, clean driving licence, be health and safety aware and be willing to be trained to use grounds maintenance equipment.

**JOB DESCRIPTION - GROUNDS PERSON**

Full-time: 37 hours per week, Monday-Friday (12.30pm finish on Fridays) with flexibility to allow for occasional weekend and evening cover. Subject to NJC for Local Authority Services terms and conditions.

**SALARY** £25,545 - £28,770 pa plus Outer Fringe Allowance (currently £689 pa)

**AREAS OF OPERATION**

The Parish of Winkfield covers 3888 hectares and the Grounds Person will operate at any of the sites in the Parish in which the Parish Council has an interest. These will include the office site; the Workshop/Store; recreation areas; Carnation Hall, Martin’s Heron and The Warren
Community Centre, pavilions; cricket pitch; tennis courts; children’s play areas, football pitches; allotment sites; ponds, woodland sites, bus passenger shelters; street seats; Parish Notice
Boards etc. It will also include any new sites being acquired by the Parish Council.

**RESPONSIBILITY**

The Grounds Person will be under the direction of, and responsible to, the Head of Grounds on a day-to-day basis and ultimately responsible to The Clerk.

**DUTIES**

The Grounds Person will assist the Head of Grounds in undertaking the following tasks:

- General maintenance of recreation grounds, tennis courts, pitches, playing fields, landscaped beds, allotments and similar areas, including grass cutting, hedge trimming, clearing leaves and litter, planting, pruning, seeding and tree care including pruning, planting and surveying.
- Maintenance of play equipment including inspections, repairs, painting and safety surfaces.
- Maintenance of buildings (including the office and pavilions), notice boards etc. including cleaning, decorating, repairs, monitoring use and care-taking.
- Maintenance of allotment sites.
- Regular inspection and maintenance of notice boards, bus shelters, roadside seats, settlement signs, milestones etc.
- Attendance on relevant training courses as directed by The Clerk.
- Occasional working at ladder-height will be required (full training will be given).

**EQUIPMENT**

The Grounds Person is required to drive the Council’s van and other grounds maintenance vehicles and operate various hand and powered equipment mainly housed at the workshop. Where necessary appropriate training will be given. A full clean manual driving licence is essential.

**SAFETY**

The Parish Council sets the highest store on the safety of the general public and of its staff.
The Grounds Person will be expected to monitor and actively promote high safety standards and assist with the preparation of update of risk assessments.

**RELATIONSHIPS**

The Grounds Person will work for the benefit of the community and is expected to maintain good relations with the general public as far as possible while monitoring behaviour at Parish
Council property to prevent injury, misuse and damage to facilities.

The Grounds Person is expected to be flexible and undertake a variety of tasks related to the operation of buildings and recreational areas. The post involves working with a small team concerned with providing a high standard of public service.
