We have an exciting opportunity for a confident, motivated and hardworking individual to work within this well-equipped Cellular Pathology department, which processes approximately 35,000 samples per year, providing essential services to the Trust and the wider health care community.

This post is based at Royal Hampshire County Hospital and is offered as a fixed term post initially for 18 months at 18.75h per week.

You will be working as part of our Administration & Laboratory support team, with specific responsibilities as a patient pathway coordinator to facilitate the delivery of testing for the endometrial and colorectal cancer Lynch Syndrome testing pathways.

You will liaise regularly with the Cellular Pathology laboratory team based on the Royal Hampshire County Hospital site and be in frequent contact with MDT and pathway co-ordinators within the hospital and on external sites.

This role involves performing a range of tasks that contribute to the diagnostic service including collation of patient reports and slides for MDT discussion, co-ordination of patient samples for sendaway tests and management of the department's tissue block and slide archives. This is a fast paced and crucial role within the department so excellent organisation, resilience and communication skills are key.

The post holder will work with the pathologist, scientific and technical teams to coordinate the external testing, referral opinion and clinical trials ‘sendaway’ function of the department to ensure that test results that directly inform cancer patient clinical management and treatments are delivered in an effective and timely way.

The post holder contributes to the provision of a high quality and efficient diagnostic service by co-ordinating the collation of patient slides and reports for Multi-disciplinary Team Discussions (MDTs) on a weekly basis.

Applications are invited from people who would like to take up the challenges offered by this progressive department. Previous Pathology or NHS experience would be advantageous but is not essential as full training will be provided.

The central Histology laboratory service is situated on the Royal Hampshire Hospital site in Winchester with a small satellite laboratory team based at the Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospital.
