This is a key role managing the HR&D team, supporting day to day activities, and promoting and developing the people agenda in the senior leadership team._

**Job Role Outline**

We are seeking a talented person to lead and manage the HR and Learning & Development activities across the business. The focus of the role will be leading the team and supporting HR operations which meets the HR needs for around forty-five sites across the UK and Ireland.

As a member of the Farrans Construction senior leadership team the post holder will represent, develop and promote change to support the people agenda so Farrans remains a great place to work and invest your career.

This role requires significant HR knowledge, management experience, developed communication skills to influence senior leaders, and a practical mindset to deliver across several jurisdictions.

**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Manage and support the HR& Development team as a knowledge expert, tactician, and Line Manager.
- Influence seniors to defer on people matters.
- Oversee the effective management of the HR&D team to meet compliance & regulatory requirements, required as our parent is stock exchange listed.
- Regular 1-to-1 meetings and development plans for immediate reports and their staff.
- Monthly HR & Development department report.
- Point of contact for directors and senior managers.
- Chair/guide disciplinary hearings or similar and point of contact for people related legal matters
- Effectively communicate on people matters to promote understanding and engagement with the HR people plan. This is in person, in groups and through presentations and in writing.
- Be an agent for progressive change and development in HR systems and ways of working in the team and across the company

**Qualifications**
- Educated to degree level
- CIPD qualification would be desirable but is not essential.
- Driving Licence and access to a vehicle is required.

**Skills and Experience**
- At least 5 years of experience as a senior HR professional, evidenced by in-depth knowledge, the ability to successfully deliver objectives to agreed timescales, skill in managing a broad range of people related issues, and the ability to communicate and influence others, including peers and seniors.
- At least 5 years of experience in managing and developing people, and in leading a team.
- Ideally an understanding of the construction and building materials sectors, or successfully working in a fast paced, demanding and often reactive working environment.
- Able to think and operate strategically and tactically.
- Able to build trust through integrity, intent, capability and results.
- Strong IT skills, including proficient use of MS Office, primarily Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Strong leadership skills, with an appreciation that the focus of leadership is on unlocking the talents and building the capacity in others rather than as a badge of hierarchy.
- Must have the emotional maturity to hold ground on important issues, to influence and promote buy-in on strategic people issues, and to bring others along with you.
- Able to work collaboratively and effectively with the HR&D leadership team and with peers
- Able to function as a strict confidante on important and sensitive issues.
- Resilient and able to initiate and influence change.
