The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) is an independent national service. We make fair and final decisions on complaints about the NHS in England, UK Government departments and some other public organisations.

To provide strategic analysis, advice, research, briefings, and project management for key strategy projects.

Work with the Senior Strategy Manager by problem solving, examining evidence and breaking down policy problems into clear project work streams. You will support the development of corporate strategy, and work closely with teams across the organisation to translate strategy into business plans.

**Job description**:
**The Role**

We are looking for an organised, diligent and analytical Strategy Adviser to join PHSO’s strategy function and play a key role in shaping the future of our organisation. You will be responsible for providing strategic analysis, advice, research, briefings, and project management for key strategy projects

**Main Duties**
- Supporting the Senior Strategy Manager to identify strategic opportunities and challenges, establish their scope, and develop rapid, evidence-based analysis and recommendations to address them.
- Support the development of corporate strategy for PHSO.
- Lead and deliver strategy projects, providing project management support to the Senior Strategy Manager.
- Carrying out research and analysis of policies, legislation, and data, summarising it, and making recommendations.
- Building and maintaining strong working relationships with colleagues in other teams across PHSO as well with external stakeholders in order to understand and influence the strategic context that PHSO is working in.
- Supporting the Senior Strategy Manager to embed strategic analysis methodologies.
- Proactively identify opportunities for continuous improvement of the strategy function, the Policy, Strategy and Public Affairs team, and the wider organisation.
- Lead large scale and high profile projects and events, working autonomously with little day-to-day oversight, and deliver on time and in budget.
- Own and manage relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, identifying opportunities to work collaboratively.
- Communicate clearly and provide expert advice and briefings to senior internal and external stakeholders, including the Ombudsman, the Board, Strategy Group, senior civil servants or journalists at national media, tailoring your message and style accordingly.
- Write and prepare copy and briefings for a range of audiences and channels, for example: briefings, reports, Board papers, editorial, leaflets, website content or social media.
- Continuously seek to protect and enhance PHSO’s reputation and identify opportunities to promote our service, improve understanding of our role, and engage target audiences in our work.
- Monitor events or activities and provide expert advice and insight to support strategic decision-making in a timely fashion.
- Lead and manage change in own area and across PHSO, identifying best practice externally and adopting internally, where appropriate.
- Participate in learning and development activity and professional development, sharing knowledge and expertise with the department and wider organisation. Analyse complex data, extract key insights and messages to share with senior internal and external stakeholders.
