Vacancy Description

Are you passionate about making a positive impact in your community? Do you have experience in homelessness prevention and relief? West Berkshire Council is looking for a dedicated and skilled Homelessness Prevention & Relief Officer in the Migration team to join our Housing Service and help us tackle the important issue of homelessness.

As a Homelessness Prevention & Relief Officer, you will report to the Homelessness Prevention & Relief Team Leader and play a crucial role in providing support and assistance to individuals and families at risk of homelessness. Your main responsibilities will include:

- Managing a caseload of homelessness prevention and relief cases, with a specific focus on migration-related issues
- Conducting thorough assessments to determine eligibility for housing assistance
- Developing and implementing tailored support plans to address the needs of each client
- Liaising with external agencies and partners to access relevant services and resources
- Providing advice and guidance on housing options, rights, and responsibilities

To excel in this role, we are looking for someone who has:

- A comprehensive understanding of homelessness legislation, including the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017
- Experience in assessing and managing homelessness prevention and relief cases
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish effective working relationships
- Excellent organisational and time management abilities, with the capacity to handle a demanding workload
- Sound judgement and decision-making skills, even in high-pressure situations
