**London**:
This description is supplementary to and compliments the Probation Service generic Probation Officer (PO) job description.
This post is designed to support the implementation of the Governments Personality Disorder (PD) Strategy and carriers a 50% workload reduction to focus on the requirements of the Strategy. POs will be supported in the role by identified NHS psychology professionals.
Post holder will be required to demonstrate:
- A knowledge of personality difficulties and a willingness to develop this knowledge
- Have completed/willing to complete the KuF Awareness Training
- Capability of reflective practice
- Capability of collaborating with multi-disciplinary, multi-sectoral risk management plans
- Eligibility to have Security Vetting to “Enhanced Level”
Activity:
- Work jointly with the appointed health provider and other Pathway partners to implement and develop the PD initiative and develop a psychologically informed approach to working with People on Probation screened-in to the Pathway in the PDU. Be the OPD point of contact for own PDU.
- To undertake case consultations with Probation Practitioners for cases identified by OASys as “screening-in” to the OPD Pathway. Develop Formulations and support PP develop a meaningful Pathway Plan to support Risk Management and improve Service Participant Wellbeing.
- Liaison with these services to ensure appropriate access for People on Probation, and that such access is equitable for all Service Participants.
- Engaging with “screened-in” cases at the earliest point of sentence to ensure effective Pathway engagement e.g., involvement in POM/COM “handover”.
- Promoting the OPD Pathway within your PDU.
- Facilitate staff learning in the PDU around the topic of personality difficulty.
- Provide peer-to-peer reflective practice and facilitate work-force development.
- Access continuing professional development to develop own skills/competencies and ensure credibility with colleagues.
- Attend MAPPA meetings, as appropriate, to contribute a psychologically, trauma informed perspective
- To hold a reduced case load (50%) commensurate with role and responsibilities.
- Record keeping of discussions and consultations. Ensure adequate nDelius and NSI recording.
- Attend Clinical Supervision provided by the Portman Clinic
- Attend bi-monthly Practitioner Group meetings. These meetings will have a business and clinical dimension and will form part of CPD.
- Collect, collate and report Project data as required
- Contribute to the successful delivery of the PD Pathway services in custody by:
- Acting as a conduit for referrals to the wider PD Pathway
- Working alongside psychological therapists to identify People on Probation on the caseload who meet the criteria for Pathway services and facilitating referral to these services
**Outcomes for PDUs**:
- Improved sentence planning which addresses complex needs, facilitating progress of People on Probation through the sentence
- Effective and proportionate risk management plans in place.
- Reducing recalls or increasing the length of time PPs are able to supervise People on Probation in the community before resorting to recall.
- Improved knowledge of referral pathways.
- Increased offender access to community services.
- Increased holistic assessments.
- A more psychologically informed workforce.
- PD cases better managed by MAPPA.
- Improved service to People on Probation and improved experience for those delivering the service.
**Overview of the job**
Post holders will undertake the full range of offender management tasks with people on probation under supervision including assessment, sentence implementation and producing reports; utilising service procedures and practice directions to underpin professional judgement.
**Summary**
To assess and manage the risk posed by people on probation to protect victims of crime and the general the public by:
- Providing information and advice to criminal courts, other criminal justice agencies and partner organisations.
- Contribute to the management of risk.
- Work with other agencies and groups to prevent crime and meet the needs of victims and people on probation.
In line with PS policies and procedures, the job holder must at all times demonstrate a commitment to equality and inclusion and an understanding of their relevance to the work they undertake.
