Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist - Dysphagia & complex communication needs

We have an exciting opportunity in Waltham Forest at North East London Foundation Trust (NELFT) for an enthusiastic and experienced Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist in dysphagia & early years complex communication needs in the community.

The post-holder will work with CYP with mealtime difficulties and dysphagia across 0-19 years as well as children with complex communication needs in the early years. You will be working in the community which includes clients homes, clinic settings and for dysphagia may also include special schools.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established, supportive Speech & Language Therapy Team with a specialist caseload.

You would be joined by several by experienced and talented colleagues in the early years complex SLT communication team to support children aged 0-5 years with moderate-severe communication difficulties and/or dysphagia eating & drinking difficulties in the context of broader medically complex needs and disabilities. You will have regular opportunities to conduct multidisciplinary work within the Child Development Team to diagnose communication and dysphagia needs and review a child’s continued progress.

Jointly lead on the provision of the Dysphagia and Complex Needs SALT service for children in Waltham Forest

Work closely with clients, carers, families and professionals to raise awareness, knowledge and skills related to the range of strategies that improve feeding outcomes across settings

Contribute to both speech and language therapy and multi-disciplinary team working to ensure co-ordinated service provision

Provide specialist knowledge, advice, training and teaching to parents, carers, students and speech and language therapy team

Continue to develop the complex communication pathway including the use of AAC.

Demonstrate clear clinical reasoning based on evidence-based practice within paediatrics, with specific experience in treatment working with children exhibiting complex communication difficulties.

Probationary Period

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

High Cost Area Supplement - London

This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,313 and a maximum payment of £5,436 per annum pro rata).
