Buckinghamshire Inpatient Psychological Therapies Team - Opal Ward (Rehabilitation)

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic person to join our Psychological service within our Inpatient Service, on our Rehabilitation Ward.

We are looking for a graduate psychologist who wishes to develop their skills in acute rehabilitation mental health services. You will have experience of working with people with adult mental health problems. and in return, we offer you experience in supporting psychological assessments and conducting short term interventions for our service users. You will have a supportive team and supervisor to work with and opportunities to develop your skills and experience.

The post holder will work with adults with severe and enduring mental illness, some of whom are detained under the mental health act in this psychiatric rehabilitation setting. Clients may present with complex mental health disorders, whose presentations might involve risk, co-morbid conditions and multiple needs, sometimes complicated by organic dysfunction.

In the course of their work, the post holder will encounter a range of presenting problems, including individuals with a diagnosis of schizophrenia and other forms of a diagnosis of psychosis, where there may be behaviour that challenges, complex emotional difficulties (depression, anxiety, anger), cognitive deficits (including impairments of intellectual, memory and executive function) and Autism Spectrum Conditions. The post holder may also be required to with the client’s support networks, including care staff and family members.

The Psychological Therapies Inpatient Team in Buckinghamshire Mental Health Services is a key part of the Acute Care Pathway. The team are part of an exciting and developing service aimed at supporting our most vulnerable patients.

The Buckinghamshire Psychological Therapies Pathway has over 200 psychological therapists, including Clinical and Counselling Psychologists, CBT Therapists, Psychotherapists and Assistant Psychologists, providing a wide range of evidence based and innovative psychological therapies for adults and older adults. We are based among the beautiful rolling Chiltern Hills, making Buckinghamshire and the surrounding area, stunning places to work and live.

The Inpatient Psychological Service sits within and across the 4 inpatient wards in Buckinghamshire. We have 4 wards: Ruby (female acute) and Sapphire (male acute), Opal (Rehabilitation) and Amber (older adult).
The postholder will be based full time on Opal Ward, with a highly skilled multi-disciplinary mental health staff team that include Nurses, Psychiatrists, Occupational Therapists, Health Care Assistants and Peer Support Workers.
The post holder will work closely with the Qualified Psychological Practitioner / Clinical or Counselling Psychologist / Consultant Clinical Psychologist in the Inpatient team and support them in achieving key objectives of delivering integrated, safe, accessible, responsive, effective and caring services to people in Buckinghamshire.
In turn, you will receive clinical supervision and will have access to a wide range of CPD activities and a strong network of Psychologists in Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. There are excellent opportunities for service development, service evaluation/research and teaching/training. The service has excellent links with the Oxford Institute of Clinical Psychology Training and Research and regularly has trainees doing clinical placements and research. The Psychological Therapies team are actively involved in research and innovation.
