The **Residential Housing Support Worker - Asylum Seeking Young People** **will be based at our offices in **Alfreton.**

**PURPOSE OF THE JOB**:
An exciting and rewarding opportunity to be a key member of the team, providing housing related assistance and guidance to 10 unaccompanied asylum seeking young people within a new 24 hour supported accommodation service in Alfreton.

This is a key post contributing to the association’s aims and objectives in delivering quality accommodation and support to young asylum seekers under new Ofsted regulation in the sector ensuring young people’s rights are upheld and advocated for.

The post holder will be responsible for managing referral and assessment processes, health and safety checks, accommodation standards, repairs system management, rent accounts, void/vacancy management and helping young people with housing related support.

Adullam achieve excellent outcomes for young people. The post holder must strive to continually improve services as part of a wider team and with the individual needs of residents at the centre of all our work.

You will be expected to contribute to the maintenance and development of the Association’s values, culture and ethos.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**

**Key Result Area**

**1**

To carry out a full needs assessment at the point of referral into the service to establish nature of support required by the young person in line with person centred approach and the Association’s policies and procedures.

**2**

To carry out and report on property inspections reviewing inventory, fabric and health, safety and environmental hazards escalating to relevant parties where necessary and supporting action planning for improvement in accordance with policy and procedure.

**3**

To identify, report and investigate tenancy breaches, working closely with internal colleagues and external agencies to ensure tenancy sustainment and where required implementing tenancy enforcement action in accordance with policy, procedure and housing regulations.

**4**

To identify and provide support to the young person liaising with and making appropriate referrals internally and externally to assist them maintain tenancy, services are accessed, or agencies are aware of matters of concern in line with young persons needs and in accordance with policy and procedures.

**5**

To maintain regular contact with ’at risk’ Young People providing advice and support in relation to budgeting, maximising income, reducing expenditure, dealing with debt, managing rent arrears and welfare benefits to prevent homelessness in accordance with policy, procedures and relevant regulations.

**6**

To record, update and maintain documentation and e-records of housing activities signposting changes and outcomes to key stakeholders in accordance with GDPR, policies and procedure.

**7**

To maximise income by tracking and monitoring payment schedules, recharge, rent arrears and managing voids, and addressing concerns in accordance with policy and procedures.

**Know How **(Depth and Breadth)

Job holder will have acquired knowledge through on the job experience and additional housing qualifications. Most work undertaken will be tailored to the needs of each young person presenting to our service albeit it will be of a routine nature requiring the job holder to follow delegated established practices, procedure and policies. Where incidents arise then job-holder will be the first point of contact and will be required act responsibly to precedents, and in compliance with appropriate housing regulations. There will be requirement for lone-working on-site/off-site with young people. The job holder will require a degree of persuasiveness/assertiveness when supporting our young people with their emotional and other support needs.

**Problem Solving **(Thinking Environment and Decision Making)

The actions and decision undertaken by the job holder will be determined predominantly by established and routine practices and processes albeit tailored to the needs of the Young Person. Work undertaken in relation to rental agreements, rental income, rent arrears, ASB, notice, and eviction will be guided by relevant housing regulations.

**Accountability **(Freedom to Act/Magnitude/Type of Impact)

The job-holder will act within established practices, processes, procedures to assess/review needs, and contribute to the development of support plan. Where there is deviation from established practices, etc., the job-holder can decide on what course of action is most appropriate in conjunction with line management for
