Trainee Accountant

To support the business Financial Control department in accounting, management information reporting, business partnering, and oversight of effective financial processes and controls.
To deliver personal and team objectives in line with the wider aims and objectives of the department, directorate and CMI.

**Description**
Accounting and reporting
- Work with Financial Accountant on the month-end and year-end financial close processes;
- Assist in completion of the month-end management accounts pack;
- Reconciliation of account balances and transactions to supporting information;
- Review the completeness and accuracy of revenue accounts;
- Reconciliation of purchase ledgers to outstanding invoices and supplier statements;
- Calculation of monthly accruals and prepayments;
- Maintenance of tangible fixed assets register, including determination of expenses to be
- capitalised and calculation of depreciation charges;
- Review of outstanding debtors and calculation of doubtful debt provisions;
- Assist in the evaluation of credit risk exposures;
- Validation of investment valuations and performance of investments portfolio;
Business Partnering - Cost Centres
- Partner with Cost Centre Owners in the oversight of operating and project costs;
- Understand current and future drivers of costs by Cost Centre;
- Assist in ongoing due diligence of suppliers;
- Validation of supplier contracts to ensure value-for-money;
- Monitor actual costs incurred against budgets and forecasts;
- Review phasing of costs on initiatives and impact on forecast costs;
- Completion of monthly cost information packs with commentary for Cost Centre Owners;
- Meetings with cost centre owners to review costs and evaluate appropriateness of forecasts;
Financial Processes & Controls
- Ensure there are effective financial processes and controls operating across the organisation;
- Assist in design, implementation and oversight of financial processes and controls;
- Reporting on operating effectiveness of financial controls;
- Identification of process improvements;
