Medical Retina Virtual Image Reporter

Responsible for reporting images for patients, working in partnership with Clinical Specialists and the Ophthalmology Patient Service Manager to ensure the delivery of high standards of patient care. Perform higher level grading/reporting which is Quality Assured by the Clinical Specialists. Reporting images require intense concentration for the duration of the session to sit for long periods at a VDU. Reporting images requires the grader to work in a darkened room for the duration of the session, the post holder will need to be able to manipulate images with precision and speed and be able to report pathology to identify sight threatening eye disease and to make appropriate referrals for treatment or further investigations.
Image reporting work requires identification of other eye pathology and to make appropriate referrals for treatment or further investigations. Reporting results and outcomes in a timely manner to the patient, clinicians, and GP. Act as a resource for health care professionals by being visible, available, and accessible for support and advice in relation to the management of patients Act as an innovative, enthusiastic role model providing leadership, guidance and advice to staff on operational and professional issues promoting an open and honest and transparent culture. Take the lead when required to develop and influence the development of practice in the clinical area through the business planning process / service development and in conjunction with Managers and Clinical Lead.
To collect data for both clinical and management purposes. To work as part of a team and to participate in team and clinical meetings as appropriate. Competence in accurate retrieval and maintenance of patient records according to Confidentiality Guidelines adopted by NHS working practices. The post holder will be required to work alongside administration staff to complete regular administrative tasks to ensure the efficient running of the screening service.
Responsible for maintaining specialist medical equipment for use on patients. To develop and maintain professional links with colleagues at all levels in both the primary and secondary care setting. Be a role model and expert image reporter providing in-depth highly specialist knowledge to colleagues through MDT meetings Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and clinical guidelines for self and others. Develop and influence policy making and clinical guidelines internally necessary to support delivery of the programme.
Continually monitor standards of grading throughout the service taking action in line with national guidance when required. Undertake the nationally required audits relating to internal quality assurance of grading. Lead on consultations on and contribute to the development of strategies for delivering effective care within a changing environment that improves the quality of care and health outcomes in the specialist area. Support and facilitate research ensure evidence-based practice in the programme.
Disseminate good practice and knowledge by pursuing opportunities to present work at national conferences or via publications, encourage team members likewise. Ensure systems are in place for risk assessment and minimisation including promoting a no blame culture in order that near misses and incidents are reported. When required take the lead in investigation of incidents / complaints including providing detailed reports / letters to complainants. Responsible for monitoring health, safety and security of self, the team and others and promote best practice in the screening areas.
Promote patient and public involvement activities in the specialist area leading to service improvement. Promote peoples equality, diversity and rights. Identify clinical issues and incidents within the Trust that reduce the quality of care bringing any issues and report accordingly. Take part in activities to counter these to ensure the delivery of safe and effective care.
Adhere to Trust Policy & Procedure. Maintain a professional portfolio. Maintain a high level of awareness of relevant research issues and trends within the specialist area of practice and in nursing generally. Take an active part in the development of nursing in the Trust via participation in professional nursing forum and shared governance initiatives.
Take responsibility for personal development and education with regard to Personal Development Plan objectives. Participate in Clinical Supervision for self and others and utilise reflective practice techniques. Provide support and development for graders and slit lamp examiners through mentorship. The post holder is responsible for ensuring the safety of patients at all times and promoting a safety culture through the effective management of risk.
