This is an exciting opportunity to join the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences’ professional services team. We are looking to recruit a highly motivated Departmental Officer to provide effective management and administration services for the highly ranked Department of Sociology.** **Sociology is a large department with over 70 staff covering a mix of disciplinary areas (Gender and Women’s Studies, Media and Cultural Studies, Social Work and Sociology) at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

The Departmental Officer is an important and varied role. This role leads the department’s professional services staff, delivering operational excellence across all of the department’s activities, implementing governance and facilitating the effective management of resources, departmental operations, including human resources, and planning. The role-holder works closely with the Head of Department and academic staff, delivering student programmes administration, human resources and project management. The Departmental Officer is the key point of contact for the department with the wider university professional services and successfully co-ordinates internal/external working partnerships and relationships. The Departmental Officer is also a key member of the Faculty professional services team, working with staff across the Faculty and wider university to respond to change, share best practice and deliver continuous improvement.

You will possess excellent organisational and communication skills and the ability to prioritise a demanding and varied workload. Interpersonal skills and an ability to work with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders are essential. You will embrace a team culture and be demonstrably willing to volunteer across teams and services to support colleagues and enhance your own professional development.
