- We are delighted this year to be able to offer a 12-week Summer Internship from June to September 2024, specialising in Economics.
- What you’ll do
- Are you curious about how business decisions are made?
- Scottish Water invests over £850million each year on Capital Investment projects. When it comes to making decisions about how we spend that money, we’re laser-focused on making sure we’re meeting the needs of our customers and delivering value for money for Scottish taxpayers.
- Our Chief Economist’s team plays a crucial role in making that happen. Their expertise is key to developing and deploying strategic and economic analysis, including cost-benefit analysis, to inform our investment plans and decision making.
- By joining our in-house team of Economists as an intern this Summer, you’ll be working with some of Scottish Water’s key stakeholders transforming the way we use economic analysis at Scottish Water.
- This is a paid Summer Internship, with the salary being £23,177 (which works out at about £1,931 per month).
- What you’ll need
- You’ll be in the penultimate year of university, or maybe about to do a Masters. Either way, you’ll be on course for at least a 2:2 degree. And it goes without saying that you will be available for the full placement time: 12 weeks.
- You will be studying towards a degree in Economics or equivalent.
- You’ll need to live within commuting distance of our Fairmilehead Office in Edinburgh.

- Final face-to-face interviews will happen during February. Where you can give us a good grilling too.
- If you accept a place on the programme, you’ll go through some pre-employment screening during the Spring, including a criminal record check.
- All our new Interns will start together at the beginning of June for a 12-week Summer Internship, finishing at the end of August. You’ll learn more about the organisation, meet our leaders, visit some of our operational sites, start making friends, and have a lot of fun.
