**The Purpose of the Role**:
Ensure accurate financial accounting across the Post Office Limited group of companies through ownership of the financial process & controls strategy and associated activities, and by heading up the 2nd line financial assurance activities on projects, principally the Strategic Platform Modernisation (“SPM”) project.

**Principal Accountabilities**:

- Responsible for 2nd line financial assurance activities for the Strategic Platform Modernisation programme. This includes full oversight and approval of 1st line assurance activities, support and guidance to third party assurers, providing regular updates to finance lead team and CFO to facilitate go/no-go decisions and ultimately ensuring financial accounting and controls are accurate, robust and complete ahead of and post go-live.
- Design and implementation of the financial reporting controls strategy across the Post Office group.
- Oversight of the Financial Reporting Controls Framework to ensure it remains risk focused and complete, including oversight of monthly monitoring activities. This includes ownership of ServiceNow for Financial Reporting Controls.
- Oversight of internal assurance activities such as controls testing, 3rd party data assurance (in collaboration with Internal Audit) and cash counts;
- Work closely with stakeholders in the wider Governance Risk and Compliance environment to monitor and react to changes in regulatory requirements and best practice, to ensure Post Office maintains the required standards to meet both internal and external requirements. This includes assessing and designing the response to the potential requirements regarding UK SOX.
- Preparation and presentation of assurance papers regarding financial controls, financial assurance activities and related items for use internally (GFC, CFO, RCC, ARC, Board etc) and externally (external audit);
- Manage the Financial Controls and Assurance team

**Qualifications, Experience & Skills**:

- Experienced accountant with experience of audit and assurance at a senior level
- Knowledge of financial statement assertions;
- In depth working knowledge of financial controls;
- Experience of working at a senior level within a large accountancy firm or organization;
- Chartered Accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA)
- Strong accounting ability;
- Strong assurance skills;
- Strong knowledge and understanding of financial process and control;
- Continuously looks to improve processes and is comfortable leading change;
- Ability to communicate across all levels of the business, with proven experience of dealing with senior stakeholders;
- Delivers insight with analysis and coaches other to do the same;
- Good understanding of Finance systems, particularly SAP with ability to support enhancement and optimization of systems;
