Job Details
This client is an international law firm with offices across three continents and they are growing. They operate in several practice areas including Finance, Shipping, Real Estate and Energy.
They have offices close to Liverpool Street, therefore convenient for commuters. The firm offers and extensive benefits package that includes 25 days holiday entitlement, staff restaurant, subsidised gym membership and good pension.
They are seeking a Credit Controller to cover a period of maternity leave. The role will report to the Working Capital Manager within the Finance department in our London office and have responsibility for both London teams and some international offices.
**Responsibilities**:
- Chasing all unpaid invoices for allocated London practice areas (Real Estate and Energy) and international offices (Madrid, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Munich, Rome and Milan).
- Liaising on at least a monthly basis with Partners and other fee earners in respect of all outstanding bills, with ad hoc liaison throughout the month.
- Maintaining relevant notes regarding debtors on the in-house credit control system.
- Attending regular meetings alongside management to review Partners’ ledgers.
- Generating credit checks and liaising with Partners on any potential issues.
- Checking that bills for allocated London practice areas and international offices (as above) have been sent to clients and the status is updated on the credit control system ready for chasing on the agreed payment date/once the auto chasing period has expired.
- Assisting Legal Cashiers with cash allocations.
- Preparing paperwork for explanation and authorisation of any debt write-offs.
- Dealing with client requests for copy bills.
- Resolving queries directly with clients where possible, discussing with Partners if necessary and ensuring all queries are dealt with promptly.
- Agreeing payment plans with Partners and the Working Capital Manager, setting up and monitoring fee payment plans to ensure collection of debt and liaising with the Working Capital Manager when the plan is breached.
- Generating Audit Reports requested by clients.
- Working closely with overseas Credit Controllers to ensure internal processes are correctly followed.
- Alerting the Working Capital Manager of any debts that are not progressing as required.
- Previous experience in a similar role, within a law firm or professional services environment.
- The confidence to deal effectively with clients, Partners, other fee earners and Management.
- A methodical approach to work with a strong focus on accuracy.
- Good communication skills at all levels.
- A working knowledge of accounting software, spreadsheets, and word processing packages.
