Logistics Specialist required in Skelmersdale for a specialist manufacturer,

a highly successful global business.

They offer turnkey design, engineering and manufacturing solutions for non-standard client requirements throughout a range of industries.

This is full time temporary contract for 9 months covering maternity leave

Responsibilities as the Logistics Specialist
- Ensuring adherence to all company policies and prevailing business regulations
- Keep current with existing freight related legislation in order to remain compliant
- Use of modern IT facilities to maximise efficiency
- Maintaining relationships with Project Management, logistics service providers, and our customers
- Ensuring products and materials ship and are delivered as scheduled

Main duties as the Logistics Specialist
- Maintain and keep updated a clear understanding of current Export Practice/Regulations and to remain current within such regulation by, as necessary, attendance at appropriate training/refresher courses.
- Be wholly familiar with Incoterms, Certificates of Origin, EUR1 movement certificates and Standard Shipping Notes.
- Liaise with the commercial, production and product allocation departments on a daily/weekly basis in order to ascertain the customer and geographical detail of the required and scheduled shipping requirements.
- Advise, check, forward-plan and confirm with the relevant shipping agent[s] the required shipping arrangements.
- To give [where pre-advised] early indication to shipping agents of product movement to unusual or commercially difficult geographical locations, and to understand the complexity of offsite work shipments.
- Ensure the accuracy of shipping detail[s] contained within the documentation pack forwarded to customers [i.e. weights, product type, destination, and individual customer detail].
- Generate the shipping documents appropriate (Packing List, Delivery Note, Commercial Invoice etc.) to the provision of the above customer supplied material.
- Provide the shipping agent[s] with the required pre-entry customs documentation.
- Preparation and progressing of key commercially related shipping documentation, i.e. Letter of credit transactions.
- Plan and implement the packing of product to ensure safe arrival at destination. To understand the requirements of correct Container planning and Container lashing.
- Close off daily shipping activity on the appropriate registers.
- Stay current with relevant shipping legislation and geographical specific requirements by reference to Agent[s] information, published periodicals and specialist reference texts.
- Ensure all required documentation is received post-shipment (AWB/Bill of Lading & Customs Export Entry) to ensure compliance with HMRC VAT regulations.
- Other appropriate activities as defined by senior management.

Education required by the Logistics Specialist
- Experience of export operations within a manufacturing environment
- Appropriate professional qualification in Export / Freight Forwarding - Preferred

The Logistics Specialist will need experience of:

- Working across cultural boundaries.
- Communicating effectively, both internally and externally.
- Working quickly and efficiently on simultaneous projects.
- Conducting analytical calculations.
