London, United Kingdom East London NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Newham has been identified as one of the priority areas in the UK to receive pilot funding for an NHS England Culturally Competent Genetics Services and Close Relative Midwife and Genetic Literacy Programme.

We have proposed an innovative community-centred initiative for high-risk individuals to improve communication of health information to increase knowledge, understanding and cultural sensitivity around the familial risk of inherited genetic conditions and promote awareness of availability and accessibility to NHS genetic counselling and testing services for high-risk individuals.

East London NHS Foundation Trust have set up this post for a Health Improvement Practitioner, who will work closely with other health and public health professionals within Newham, including the Close Relative Midwife based at Newham University Hospital, to support raising genetic literacy at the community level.

**The programme has the following aims and objectives**:

- To increase public knowledge around basic science of genetics and the familial risk of inherited conditions
- To increase knowledge of the Programme referral criteria and pathway
- To increase patient access to NHS Clinical Genetics services
- To evaluate and share learning for running a Culturally Competent Genetics Service which can be extended for North East London ICS

Our mission is to make a positive difference to people's lives by improving the quality of life for all we serve. Our values are: We Care, We Respect, We are Inclusive - so we are looking for people who live and breathe these qualities when supporting service users and carers, and in their relationships with colleagues in the Trust and our partner organisations
