Main duties of the job

**PROPOSED TIMETABLE**

The post-holder would dedicate 80% of their week to Undergraduate teaching, including administration, the delivery of teaching, running clinic and practical skills sessions, developing course materials and learning resources. The remaining 20% of time will be allocated to clinical activity.

The following is a guideline of the proposed job plan and weekly timetable:

- 6 teaching sessions per week for undergraduate medical students
- 2 Clinical Sessions
- 1 session per week for course development
- 1 sessions per week for admin / CPD / research
- Flexible time commitment to other teaching activities

You will be expected to work closely with the Undergraduate Education Lead for Ophthalmology (Miss Dalia Said) and the Undergraduate Medical Education Administrative Team..

This post would be ideal for any junior doctor with experience in Ophthalmology, who has an interest in medical education and wants to develop this further. It would be particularly suited for a trainee (ST3 to ST7) as an Out of Programme for Experience but post FY2’s may also be considered.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
- GMC Full registration MBBS or equivalent

Desirable criteria
- Distinction, prizes or honours during Postgraduate training

Experience

Essential criteria
- Within the UK Satisfactory completion of clinical training attachments both in central (Teaching) and peripheral (District General) acute hospitals

Desirable criteria
- Clinical experience in Ophthalmology as a doctor, or equivalent experience

Teaching

Essential criteria
- Enthusiastic and experienced in teaching clinical skills in the workplace or training environment to junior staff and students

Desirable criteria
- Experience of teaching to multidisciplinary groups Has successfully completed a ‘training the trainers’ or ‘teaching skills’ course Presentations at local/regional/national meetings

Reasearch & Audit

Essential criteria
- Evidence of active participation and completion of an audit project

Desirable criteria
- Participation in a clinically-based research project.
