The West Wing Clinical Research Centre (WWCRC) is a new clinical research facility at the Sutton site of The Royal Marsden Hospital which will provide a dedicated space and a comfortable environment for patients participating in clinical trials. WWCRC will include laboratory facilities for the processing of pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamics blood samples, essential for clinical trials as well as a dedicated pharmacy room for rapid dispensing of clinical trial drugs. It will incorporate space for the Clinical Research Teams to operate with consulting rooms for research clinics, which will encompass consent, screening, baseline and on-treatment patient visits. There will be a limited number of day recovery beds for patients undergoing research-related per-protocol tumour biopsies/procedures. WWCRC is located in the West Wing of the hospital and will be open in January 2014.

We are looking for outstanding individuals to work on the West Wing Clinical Research Centre

The post holder will assume the duties of a laboratory assistant by delivering a high quality and effective service to patients.
- They will work under the supervision of lab technician and will be managed by the sister/matron of the ward.
- The principal duty of the post holder will be to deliver laboratory support for the unit.
- The post holder will be required to undergo necessary training in the skills needed to execute various predictable laboratory procedures consistently.
- The post holder will be expected to act as back up when required.
- The post holder will be expected to work in a highly organised and methodical manner, with a high level of accuracy and understanding of the technical aspects of the work.
- They will strive to achieve maximum efficiency and quality of service in a timely manner.
- To work in accordance with the philosophy, policies and requirements of the WWCRC, RM and ICR.
- To provide the best possible quality of service to WWCRC patients at all times
- Work in collaboration with the Good Clinical Practice (GCP) team to adhere to SOPs which reflect the processes that take place on WWCRC and maintain records. To update the excel spread sheet with relevant information regarding tracking of samples.

- Undertake routine technical and analytical procedures as assigned by the laboratory technician, for the provision of an effective and efficient laboratory service. They will carry out different workload relating to the laboratory.
- The post holder will organize and prioritize their own workload proficiently on a regular basis and in consideration of the needs of entire team.
- To implement laboratory procedures for the recording of samples, processing and shipment, according to laboratory protocol. To ensure barcoding of samples is correctly implemented at all stages of the procedures.
- To implement relevant documentation and record-keeping processes, including the use of the T drive, and to assist with the retrieval of data for audit and query purposes when requested
- To assist in the routine usage and maintenance of the laboratory equipment like centrifuges and freezers on a regular basis.
- To assist in the routine use and maintenance of other equipment as designated by monitoring safety, performance, calibration and temperature as required following standard operating procedures (SOP).
- To make sure that stock maintenance of sample kits are done in a timely manner to ensure the effective use of resources.
- To ensure that all equipment is used correctly and securely according to laboratory protocols, to report any faults to the lab technician or in their absence to a senior member of the West Wing Team.
