**About the role**
Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Head of Planning to join our Regional team to work in **Maxim Business Park, Eurocentral.**

We are looking for a dynamic, forward thinking and driven individual to take up the role of Head of Planning for Scotland Business Unit.

The role holder will lead and develop the planning team across Balfour Beatty operations throughout the project lifecycle from Win Business to Execution and Project Closeout. You will also have responsibility for preparation of detailing programmes, logistic sequences and written submissions for projects and tenders varying in value from £5m to in excess of £100m

You will be able to drive change into our planning processes and procedures to continue to enhance our commercial analysis and provide greater insight into our projects. These changes will provide a framework for our planning teams to develop a consistent approach to delivery and deliver reliable outputs to the project.

By fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment, you will build, inspire lead and develop a team of approximately 10 planning staff, including setting of standards and expectations, assist in goal setting, identify training requirements, succession planning and career path decisions.

**What you'll be doing**
As the Head of Planning, you will build, lead, inspire and develop a high performing Planning Function. Specific accountabilities include (but are not limited to):

- Shape and implement world class planning processes and procedures. Ensure that the teams’ output reaches the highest quality of work possible and ensure that the business and client planning needs are met
- Ensure that Contract Programmes are produced, managed and maintained in accordance with the planning processes and procedures
- Underpin the overall planning strategy and provide governance on the timing and sequence of Contract Programme activities
- Motivate and empower the planning team, supporting their career development and build a pipeline of talent for succession planning needs
- Work with functional department leaders to drive excellence and innovation into the planning function
- Oversee the recruitment of planners at project level to ensure a quality resource is hired and fit for current and future needs
- Select and implement the best suited solutions for 4D Planning and ensure that the overall implementation is managed effectively in line with business Group Digital Strategy.
- Develop 4D planning capability in the Regional business both at preconstruction & construction phases.
- Ensure all newly recruited Planners have appropriate digital capability.
- Ensure all existing planners develop the appropriate digital capability and have the correct Software, Hardware and Training.
- Ensure 4D Planning standards are maintained on all live projects.
- Liaise with Digital Delivery Group Sponsor, Digital Lead and Business Improvement Lead to align 4D digital capability with expectations of Digital Delivery Group, including reality capture software and 5D quantification.
- Act as a regular contributor to project and business meetings. Identify and pursue internal and external opportunities to develop service offerings and capabilities

**Who we're looking for**
Personal Qualities and Experience:

- Must have demonstrated experience in the delivery of major multidisciplinary complex megaprojects
- Experienced in the leadership and management of diverse teams
- Sound understanding of various forms of tender documents, contract documents and specifications
- Excellent understanding of various methods of planning, programming and progress monitoring
- Sound understanding of risk and opportunity management with particular reference to planning/ programming
- Excellent understanding of the events that initiate, and of the methods used to demonstrate, compensation event entitlement.
- Excellent understanding of the construction market, methods of construction, plant, equipment and labour requirements
- Positive attitude to Health, Safety and Environmental Issues
