An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and energetic individual to join the busy Blood Sciences team at Pilgrim Hospital, Boston as a Biomedical Assistant. The department is part of the Path Links networked NHS Pathology Service offering a wide range of diagnostic investigations on tissue, blood, and fluid samples across Lincolnshire, and is also part of the East Midlands Pathology Network, ME2.

Path Links is a networked Pathology Service offering a wide range of diagnostic investigations on tissue, blood, and fluid samples. A Biomedical Assistant (BMA) is a member of a multidisciplinary Pathology team within the network delivering an effective, high quality and responsive 24-hour services to patients, clinicians and General Practitioners.

All Path Links laboratories are accredited to national United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) ISO 15189:2012 standards. Regular assessments by external auditors from UKAS assess laboratory compliance with the published standards and ensure that the service provided meets the needs and requirements of users.

The post will be based in the blood sciences laboratory at Pilgrim Hospital and involve the data entry, processing and testing of blood and urine samples using automated equipment and manual processing.

The post holder will work within the departments 24-hour, 7-day working shift pattern supporting the BMS staff in clinical chemistry, haematology and blood transfusion

The post will be based in the Blood Sciences laboratory at Pilgrim Hospital and involve the data entry, processing and testing of blood and urine samples using automated equipment and manual processing.

The post holder will work within the departments 24 hour 7 day working shift pattern supporting the BMS staff in Clinical chemistry, Haematology and Blood transfusion.

**Preparation of analysers for use**: including maintenance, calibration and quality control.

Inputting patient data into the laboratory computer system, preparation of samples for analysis and storing them after.

Prelimary ‘Troubleshooting’ problems that arise during the course of the working day and rectify them, or seek appropriate assistance.

Participate in the provision of a 24 hour 7 day working shift pattern ‘Out of hours’ service where operated or participation in extended day staff rota as appropriate. This will require supporting the BMS staff during the shift period without direct supervision.

Storage of deliveries, stock control and monitoring of storage conditions.
