Hours: 18hrs over 3 days 9am-3pm

Accountable to: Branch Manager and UNICEF Community Lead
**Salary**: £10.52
**Job Summary**
To work across the Family Hub Network and with health professionals to support the planning and delivery of breastfeeding support services. Ensuring seamless support for families, with a focus on increasing coverage of breastfeeding support for disadvantaged and vulnerable families across the Wakefield District. This includes but is not limited to families living in areas of deprivation and at risk of poverty, young and teenage parents, Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities and migrant health population
To help reduce health inequalities, working to engage those least likely to access services as early as possible to help them understand the benefits of breastfeeding and how to access the support available to them.
Families and Babies work across the Wakefield District to support the needs of a diverse population. The post holder will work with relevant partners to ensure that Families and Babies is accessible to these and other population groups, vulnerable to health inequalities.
**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
- To ensure families from underserved populations have equitable access to breastfeeding peer support and feel valued and included
- To enable co - parents and carers to feel included and able to support their partners.
- To work closely with partners organisations and communities to identify needs and challenges of vulnerable or under-served groups. and plan work accordingly
- To use intelligence to help break down barriers to breastfeeding within the community.
- Support the implementation of evidence informed packages of information and support
- To help organise and contribute to local events to promote and celebrate the workstream
- To identify vulnerable or underserved groups within the Wakefield district and make contacts within these groups, building relationships.
- Recruiting volunteers to support their peers in local communities, with breastfeeding and translation where necessary.
- Providing training, supervision and mentoring to volunteers enabling them to develop community groups and drop in sessions.
- Working closely with the FAB volunteer coordinator to identify gaps in provision and opportunities to educate the wider family.
- Working with community venues and Family Hub staff to put robust referral pathways in place.
- Encouraging families to engage with other services.
- Working in partnership to develop targeted antenatal provision within the underserved groups.
- Supporting antenatal infant feeding education sessions independently and alongside health care professionals
- To develop opportunities to meet other breastfeeding mothers and access peer to peer support e.g. through breastfeeding support groups within the community
- Undertaking home visits in the antenatal and postnatal period to promote and support breastfeeding
- Maintaining contact with mothers throughout the first 6 weeks, working closely with health care professionals and keeping them informed of support given
- Keeping up to date records, recording all visits in the appropriate documents and in the neonatal notes / child health records as required
- Recognising the importance of always maintaining confidentiality
- Keeping managers informed of activities, concerns and developments.
- Working within the limits of own competence and responsibility and referring issues beyond these limits to relevant agencies
- Taking an active role in own appraisal and attending any team meetings and training
- Completing paperwork relating to Families and Babies and keeping office staff informed of your whereabouts at all times
- Completing timesheets by agreed deadlines
- Maintaining and updating appropriate skills and being willing to undertake additional training where appropriate
- Taking responsibility for your own time management and organisation of paperwork
- Carrying out additional duties as requested by managers
- Car driver and use of car essential.
**Job Type**: Part-time
