The Argory is a Georgian Neo-Classical mansion house situated in Co. Armagh beside the Blackwater River. The estate was home to four generations of the MacGeough Bond family. This job involves bringing the stories of the family to life while balancing the needs of the Collection and access for our visitors. This is a varied role which involves management of the Collections Assistant who carry out the conservation cleaning in the property and our Service Assistant team who act as guides in the house. You will be involved in the routine maintenance of the property and are an integral role to the running of the site, working closely with each team to ensure we deliver high levels of visitor experience and maintain security of the site. We are currently working on improving accessibility to areas of our site, various conservation projects and promoting our property offer to visitors. The Collections & House Officer is core person to facilitating all aspects of visitor experience and will work closely with our Visitor Experience Team and Collections & House Manager to do this.

We could be buffing the 162 brass uprights at The Argory but we have fun while we do it.
What you'll be doing:You’ll be responsible for the daily opening of the house, ensuring appropriate resources are in place to be able to provide a consistently excellent service for our visitors. Working with a team of Collection Assistants, you'll supervise the team responsible for implementing conservation routines, preventive conservation and annual deep cleaning programme within the house to ensure excellent standards of care, delivering strategies to improve conservation.
You'll collect and record information during housekeeping cleaning routines to inform our understanding of the house and the collection, and use preventive conservation techniques to improve how we conserve, interpret and present the property. You will ensure supplies of conservation & salvage equipment are well stocked & maintain your own budget to supply these. You’ll enjoy telling visitors about our fascinating history, sharing tales from the past as well as your personal experience of working here. You will maintain health & safety standards in the mansion with the Collections & House Manager. We want the person in this role to lead by example and inject creativity to this role ensuring we continue to tell the stories of the MacGeough Bond family in new ways to connect to our modern audience. You will also support smaller properties in our portfolio like Ardress House & Derrymore House assisting the teams at these sites when required and will be expected to travel to these locations on a regular basis as well as supporting your peers across our other properties at Springhill House, Grays Printing Press & Wellbrook Beetling Mill. Training and personal development could also involve travelling to other properties in the region or to other properties nationally.

- Have an impressive eye for even the smallest of details and are comfortable working from height to help keep the house well-presented at all times
- Have excellent people skills and are a good team player with day-to-day line management and supervisory skills
- Some knowledge and experience of managing costs and expenditure.
- Willing to contribute original or imaginative ways to make elements of the collection or house that are difficult to reach accessible to all visitors.
- Knowledge of customer care and approaches to optimising visitor enjoyment
