We work with a wide range of clients, including national and local governments, bilateral and multilateral donors, and the private sector.

In support of this mission, DAI’s UK Business Unit primarily services the UK Government in delivering its international development objectives. Additionally, we service other select international bilateral and multilateral development agencies.

Within the UK Business Unit, our technical teams play a pivotal role in achieving new business objectives and ensuring the successful delivery of programmes. Cutting across technical teams is our operations Department, a central function managing the commercial interests of the business unit and ensuring the alignment of programme delivery with company policies and contractual obligations.

DAI is seeking a dynamic and results-driven Head of Operations to lead our team in navigating complex issues and supporting the business unit in achieving its strategic and commercial objectives. The Head of Operations will be highly organised, efficient, possess strong commercial acumen and thrive in a collaborative teams’ environment.

The Head of Operations will serve as a key member of the Business Unit’s Senior Management Team, providing counsel to the Senior Vice President and contributing to the overall business unit strategy and management. This role can be based in our Hemel Hempstead or London office.

**Responsibilities**:
**Impact**:
To ensure we are effective in delivering impact on our projects, the Head of Operations will play a crucial role in providing support and oversight in the following ways:

- Collaborate with project teams to ensure in-country operating platforms and entities that service business unit projects are established and managed in line with company requirements.
- Oversee the process through which contracts are reviewed and managed, balancing diligence and efficiency.
- Support Project Directors in ensuring projects adhere to company policies and contractual obligations, and that risks are understood, minimised, and managed.
- Support the Head of the Business Unit in identifying and monitoring business unit level operational risks.
- To minimise risks, develop and oversee quality assurance systems for the business unit.
- Support project teams in commercial negotiations and in identifying opportunities to optimise financial performance of projects.
- In collaboration with the Finance Team, support the Head of Business Unit in reviewing management information, fostering data-driven decision making and driving continuous improvement in financial performance.

- To enable growth in the business, the Head of Operations will work collaboratively and provide strategy level advice and support in the following ways.
- Supporting new business teams in shaping commercial strategies and offering quality assurance by assessing risks and evaluating potential commercial returns.
- Review and adapt our business unit operating model with a focus on optimising efficiency and financial performance.

**Talent Development**:
The Head of Operations is expected to maintain a motivated and high performing Operations Team simultaneously strengthening the Business Unit’s ability to manage contracts and achieve our commercial objectives in the following ways.
- Train and mentor project teams to improve their ability to optimise operating margins and adeptly negotiate with suppliers and clients.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver project management training and use case studies to improve the capacity to manage risks.
- Identify critical skills requirements and create avenues for their development both internally and to draw people in externally. Effective performance management of individuals within the team, facilitating ongoing feedback, supporting progression when warranted and performance improvement measures where required.

**Collaboration**:
Beyond the core objectives of the Head of Operations role, as a member of the Senior Management Team, the Head of Operations is expected to contribute to the success of the business unit and DAI more broadly, demonstrating the following support and behaviours:

- Contributing team and personal inputs to support other teams and business units achieve their objectives, including for business development and project delivery.
- Actively generating and sharing information that contributes to building institutional knowledge.
- Supporting cross business unit and company initiatives while empowering team members to do the same.
- Leveraging networks and relationships to assist colleagues in accessing experts, partners, and clients.
