We are looking for an innovative and motivated Peer Support Worker to work in the Liaison and Diversion Service across which covers the Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County. The successful applicant will have lived experience of the criminal justice system and will be offered support in developing self/role via the Trust’s Peer Support Development Unit.

The L&D Service aims to improve the access to and engagement with services people coming into contact with the criminal justice system (court, police custody etc.). Whilst not a service which provides clinical interventions, the L&D Service offers liaison, advocacy, signposting and support to those coming into contact with the criminal justice system to support engagement in community
- based health and support services. This approach aims to support the wellbeing of people being arrested to reduce inequalities and address health-related drivers of offending behaviours.

If you would like a challenge and the opportunity to be an inclusive, creative practitioner, this job may be for you.

This role works with people from their very early contact with criminal justice agencies, potentially through tot heir final court hearing and so earl engagement/intervention is likely to support the best outcomes for service users. Engagement with peer support workers aims to add additional opportunities for engagement with the service, within the community and helping to break the cycle of offending. The value of lived experience in supporting this population of people is understood as an integral part of this service and huge value this adds to the support offered.

As a Peer Support Worker you will use your experiences to offer understanding, support in linking with appropriate services/agencies, promote choice and to inspire hope and future opportunities. The role will include, offering support to carers (including friends and relatives) and their supporters in the community by enabling and assisting them to meet daily health, social care and well-being needs, in line with support plans and facilitating engagement with mainstream services. All work will be carried out under the supervision of the Team Manager/L&D Practitioners.

As a Peer Support Worker, you will act as a recovery champion within the team and an ambassador of recovery for the Trust with external agencies and partner organisations. You will be supported, and are expected, to invest in your own personal and professional development as well as supporting ongoing development of peer roles in the Trust.

These networks play a vital role in supporting our diverse workforce and promoting a culture of inclusivity.

The health and wellbeing of our colleagues is a top priority. We invest significantly in this through our in-house occupational health and staff counselling services, supported by a dedicated Health and Wellbeing team.

The Trust is committed to reducing its carbon emissions, with a specialised Energy and Environmental team working to ensure compliance with environmental legislation, enhance our environmental performance, and achieve our net-zero commitment

The L&D service has 2 Peer Support Worker posts in the team currently. Your lived experience of the criminal justice services will be a significant part of your work, using your experiences to offer understanding, support in linking with appropriate services/agencies, promote choice and to inspire hope and future opportunities. This is all the more important for this population of service users who often have additional barriers to accessing mainstream services and experiences of stigma.

Screening/team held caseload - To support the team’s screening process for all referrals into the service. To support the team’s assessment of individuals and develop a plan of support in conjunction with the service user and the wider L&D Team, using lived experience as a way to support engagement.
