**Job summary**:

- To provide support to a profile of research and surveillance projects in the fields of national and international veterinary public health within the Department of Epidemiological Sciences at APHA Weybridge. This will include data handling, database entry and reporting (including liaison with APHA colleagues and external customers to resolve missing data items), documentation and project support conforming to ISO9001:2015 quality standards, assistance with mail-shots and the preparation and distribution of sampling kits where required.**Job description**:

- Management of the process of data receipt, entry, quality control and customer liaison for Direct avian Salmonella data form submissions as part of the Salmonella surveillance project
- Managing and processing data received from Salmonella testing in feeds, liaising with staff at other APHA sites and feed manufacturers.
- Processing and validating Salmonella testing data from Scottish farm premises, received via Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC).
- Undertaking database entry for Zoonoses Order visits (ZO4), responding to enquiries as needed.
- Providing adhoc support to other surveillance or research project tasks as required such as the preparation and dispatch of sampling kits and attending farm visits for field-based sampling.

**Responsibilities**
- Processing Direct Avian Salmonella submissions on the day of receipt and ensuring notifications are sent to customers and mangers for high priority test results. This requires extensive liaison with Defra, Regional Laboratory Staff, private veterinarians, and laboratories to retrieve missing data items and resolve inconsistencies.
- Cross-checking data against submission and Laboratory results databases, performing regular data validations and producing regular reports.
- Ensuring desk instructions for data entry are maintained and updated, and paper records are maintained and stored in line with records management procedures
- Ensuring that mailbox enquires requiring action such as data changes are followed up and resolved.

**Sampling visits to farms and/or abattoirs**

- Strong planning and organisational skills
- Clear and confident communication in person and remote (such as by telephone or video)
- Positive response to change
- High levels of attention to detail
- Experience of working with MS Word, Excel, Outlook is essential for this role.
- Experience of working to quality standards (such as ISO9001)

**Licences**:
