About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced qualified accountant to join our Accounts Payable team as the new Head of Accounts Payable at our Waterside Head Office in Blackburn.

Reporting directly into the Finance Operations Director, you will lead your team alongside owning and driving improvements as well as adopting best practices relating to the department.

You will play a vital role in the company’s transformation programme and help drive EG Group in standardising its processes and controls, whilst continuously finding new and better ways for the business to operate within Accounts Payable.

As well as managing, coaching and mentoring your team, you will also have the opportunity to work closely with and build strong working relationships with associated stakeholders and finance peers.

**Duties & Responsibilities**:
Take ownership of the Accounts Payable related transactional processes and controls.
Be a hands-on SME in managing supplier relationships and reconciling supplier statements/ balances to ensure EG’s processes and controls are optimised.
Identify risks in processes and controls and present them to others along with options to mitigate risks.
Create new and inventive ways of improving processes and controls whilst executing plans effectively.
Work collaboratively with IT and manage the implementation of new systems, e.g. EDI or supplier reconciliation software.
Coach and educate the team on best practice relating to Accounts Payable and instil the skills and confidence in the team to enable them to make decisions independently where appropriate.
Support the team with their development and ensure each team member has a plan in place and clear direction for progression.
Focus on operational impacts at all times whilst ensuring that processes continue to add value.
Work collaboratively alongside peers to ensure, where required, that EG’s end-to-end processes are optimised and dovetail seamlessly into other processes where they interact.
Share and encourage best practice with end-users to ensure it is both understood and also adopted.
Forge strong relationships with other members of the Finance team and business stakeholders at all levels to gain their trust and be a credible partner in helping them improve ways of working.
Drive standardisation to ensure that all changes are implemented globally.
Analyse and report large volumes of data on Microsoft Excel.
Where appropriate, work on future acquisitions (and divestments) made by EG Group and provide support in ensuring new acquisitions adopt standard processes.

Qualified accountant with at least 5+ years of experience
Experienced manager with proven ability to create and retain high-performing teams
Recent large-scale experience as an SME with Accounts Payable / transactional services or related disciplines
Can successfully project manage others with a track record of independently improving processes and controls
Experience operating in a relatively large, complex business
IT literate - Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word.
Understanding of processes in ERP systems.

**System implementation experience, for example**: EDI or supplier reconciliation software desirable
Process mapping experience desirable
Have an inventive and pro-active mind-set to independently identify and resolve data, process and controls related issues
Resourceful and action orientated with a clear drive for results
