**Role Summary**

Birmingham Law School (BLS) is one of five Schools in the College of Arts and Law with almost 2,000 students and around 100 staff.

An excellent communicator, the post holder will have outstanding attention to detail, be flexible whilst using initiative, be extremely well organised with the ability to manage a varied and busy workload, understanding the need for prioritisation, and the ability to learn new processes and skills. They will be a team player, whose proactive and efficient approach will support the School on a daily basis.

The post sits within the Business Operations team at Birmingham Law School, supporting the Senior Leadership team, which has responsibility for providing strong academic leadership and ensuring that the School achieves the highest possible standards in its varied activities.

**Main Duties**
- These are indicative but will change in response to changing needs and priorities within the School: _
- Liaise with senior School staff on a daily basis regarding the events of the day and to take follow-up action as necessary. This will include the School’s Head of Research, Head of Operations and Dean of School. Tasks may include preparing paperwork in a timely fashion and reordering activity at short notice when priorities change.
- Use initiative by looking ahead to anticipate challenges and opportunities and to discuss these as appropriate with the School Business Operations team.
- Service committees as required providing advice on University protocols and policies. Ensuring meetings are planned/terms of reference are applied and meetings are accurately minuted. To ensure the effective dissemination of information and that follow-up actions are completed.
- Support School Research as required, e.g. through support for Head of Research, committees, plus associated tasks, such as REF (Research Excellence Framework) planning.
- Undertake research on University matters and seek professional advice from different areas of the University as required by the School senior team (e.g. finance, facilities, HR). This will require clear thought and understanding and the ability to communicate effectively and confidently across the University.
- Support the School Administration Manager in the recruitment of academic staff. This will include arranging recruitment panels, preparing and completing paperwork, co-ordinating diaries and arranging shortlisting meetings ensuring that the School complies with University requirements.
