**POST**: Clinical Fellow in Radiology GRADE/SALARY: At Senior SpR level according to experience (ST5+)/Post CCT DURATION: The post is available for 12 months ACCOUNTABLE TO: Clinical Lead in Radiology JOB SUMMARY This is a clinical post suitable for subspecialty clinical training in cardiothoracic Radiology. The post is for 12 months. Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital (LHCH) provide medical and surgical adult cardiothoracic services to the people of Merseyside, North Wales, Isle of Man, parts of Lancashire and Cheshire. This catchment area has a population of 2.8 million people.

The Trust provides a full range of diagnostic cardiac and pulmonary facilities. LHCH Radiology department has two dedicated Cardiovascular MRI scanners (Siemens 1.5 T Aera, Siemens 3T Vida) and two dedicated Cardiothoracic CT scanners (Siemens Somatom Force). Siemens Colour Doppler is used for ultrasound studies, which are performed by LHCH radiologists. The department is fully digital with Carestream PACS integrated with HSC CRIS with digital dictation and voice recognition systems.

The successful applicant will join the Cardiothoracic Radiology and Imaging team currently consisting of 9 Consultant Radiologists, 3 specialist Radiology trainees as well as 5 Imaging Cardiologists as well as Cardiology trainees. The Clinical Fellow will have the opportunity to work in multimodality cardiothoracic imaging (XR, ultrasound, CT, MRI, lung biopsies). The Fellow will be required to contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings at least once a week. This will include liaison with the clinical team (cardiology, respiratory medicine, cardiothoracic surgery, genetics).

To maintain a high standard of patient care at all times. To liaise with the Lead Radiographers with regard to clinical service issues. To liaise with the staff to ensure the safe operation of all imaging equipment in the Radiology and Imaging Department (referred further as Department) To ensure appropriate infection control measures are utilised when necessary. Paying particular attention to personal protection as well as the management of equipment and linens.

To clear up after biological or other spills in accordance with the Trusts infection control policy. To observe safety regulations with particular regard to the local rules for Radiology and the Health and Safety at Work Act. If necessary, to remove property from a patient, for example to take any metal object or jewellery off for an MRI scan, and ensure the patients property is looked after and returned to them at the completion of the procedure. The post holder will attend the regular multidisciplinary meetings, discrepancy meetings, monthly clinical departmental meetings.

Other duties in the Department will be under the guidance of the Clinical Lead. PEOPLE MANAGEMENT To communicate appropriately with other members of staff, giving support and advice where necessary. To train radiographers, deanery trainees and visiting doctors in the use of scanning and reporting equipment. To welcome and assist visitors to the Department.

COMMUNICATION The post holder will maintain good working relationships with multidisciplinary team within the Department and the hospital. To liaise with other departments/wards within the hospital and various external sources in order to provide a quality service to patients and clinicians. To communicate appropriately with other members of staff, giving support and advice where necessary. To communicate effectively and empathetically with patients and their escorts prior to, during and after an examination and to assess specific communication needs of individual patients.

To use tact and sensitivity when asking personal questions, e.g. checking pregnancy status before an examination. To explain procedures and reassure patients who may have concerns regarding claustrophobia in order to gain their cooperation. RESOURCE MANAGEMENT To use complex and expensive Radiology scanning equipment safely and responsibly.

To report any equipment failure to the Lead Radiographers. To abide by the Trusts core behaviours for staff and all other Trust Policies, including standing financial instructions, research governance, codes and practices and health and safety policies INFORMATION MANAGEMENT All employees must adhere to policies and procedures relating to Information Governance, Confidentiality and Information Security. To maintain confidentiality of image data and patient records. To report faults in the data information systems in use in the department.

To record all scan episodes with Departments office staff. TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT The post-holder will be fully trained in their duties. Further help in audit and research techniques will be provided as required. To participate in the continuing development programme for all staff.
