This is a one-year CF Trust Fellow post, due to commence prior to August 2025 (start date negotiable) and hosted by the Liverpool Adult CF Unit at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital (LHCH) and funded by the CF Trust.

The scheme provides specialist training in CF medicine and aims to train the future leaders of specialist adult CF care.

The programme will also give successful Fellows the opportunity to embark on clinically based research, service evaluation or quality-improvement projects, which will dovetail into their clinical training programmes.

The CF Trust’s Clinical Training Fellowship Programme has sponsored several physicians to invest their work in CF across many decades and many of the best and brightest leaders working in CF in the UK today have benefited from this vital support.

The Adult CF Centre is based at the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, a standalone NHS Trust which provides tertiary cardiac and thoracic services for North Wales, Merseyside and Cheshire, serving a catchment area of >3.5 million people. The Centre is a large adult clinic with over 400 pwCF (person / people with CF) living across Merseyside, the Northwest of England, North Wales and Isle of Man. Outpatient facilities are provided in a state-of-the-art outpatient block opened in 2005.
- Face-to-face Outpatient clinics: The Fellow will get enhanced experience and develop expertise in the outpatient management of pwCF by attending weekly face to face annual review clinic appointments. We envisage training the Fellow to be competent and confident seeing and treating pwCF in the annual review clinic.
- Virtual Outpatient Clinics: The Fellow will attend weekly virtual clinics to get experience in remote clinical monitoring. Again, with supervision and training tailored to the Fellow’s need we envisage they will feel comfortable seeing and independently managing pwCF in the remote clinic by the end of the 12-month period.
- In patient work: Inpatient work has decreased dramatically in the last few years. Experience managing key complications of CF e.g. DIOS, complex Pseudomonas aeruginosa lung infection, NTM-Pulmonary disease (PD) is still vital for a small subset of patients, and we will therefore adopt an opportunistic training approach to inpatient work.
- CF related diabetes: Our centre has a fully integrated CF diabetes team, and the Fellow will be supported to gain exposure to insulin pumps, closed-loop systems, and the interpretation of continuous glucose monitoring data.
- Cardiorespiratory MDT

As the largest single site specialist heart and chest hospital in the UK, we, at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, have a clear vision 'to be the best cardiothoracic integrated healthcare organisation'.

We provide specialist services in cardiothoracic surgery, cardiology, respiratory medicine both in the hospital and out in the community.

We serve a catchment area of 2.8 million people, spanning Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and the Isle of Man, and increasingly we receive referrals from outside these areas for highly specialised services such as aortics.

Our reputation for strong performance is important in delivering the best care for our patients and high quality clinical services. This is underpinned by a culture of research and innovation, delivered in modern estate and our encouragement of flexible working in a variety of forms.
