We have an exciting new opportunity for a phlebotomist to join our current Team at the Park Surgery.

Our Practice
- We are a very friendly and supportive mdt team
- We have approximately 6,600 patients
- Cirencester is a vibrant and attractive market town and the surgery is a short walk from the centre of town.
- We use SystmOne and are CQC rated “good”.

The Role

Working under the direct supervision of the practice nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols and within the scope of their practice, the post-holder will be responsible for performing venepuncture, as requested by the clinical team, to the entitled patient population. In addition, the phlebotomist will be expected to support the nursing team:

- Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood sample(s)
- Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols
- Maintaining accurate patient records
- The correct labelling, packaging and storing of (various) samples
- Effective use of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies
- Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner
- Maintaining an effective liaison with the laboratory staff
- Working collaboratively with the nursing team, seeking guidance when necessary for patient related matters
- Participate in practice audit as directed by the audit lead
- Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care
- Support and participate in shared learning within the practice
- Complete opening and closing procedures in accordance with the duty rota
- Re-stocking clinical rooms
- Ordering useables

In addition to being technically competent to undertake the above tasks with the minimum of supervision, the ability to communicate effectively with staff and patients is very important. Maintaining confidentiality and the possession of basic computer skills are vital. Whilst you may not be technically proficient in all the above areas, full training will be provided.
