Youth Mentor
Are you a graduate looking to launch your career? Would you like to join a large charity who support young people with learning disabilities and learning difficulties (autism / ADHD) to thrive in the world of work?
**Please note: This is a part time role at 16 hours weekly (2 or 3 days depending upon business needs)**
You preferably have access to your own car as this role requires outreach in Birmingham and the surrounding areas
You MUST have and be able to present GCSE certificates in Maths and English - this is essential for the role
The charity delivers a supported internship programme. Young people study employability & life skills whilst imbedding English and Maths on the course. As part of this, they will be allocated an employer to go on a work placement with. Your role will vary day to day, but could include:
- Supporting the young person to plan their journey to work so they can become independent
- Attending work with them, working closely with employers to provide support as needed
- End of day calls with the young person and employer to check on progress
- Liaising closely with the tutor around potential extra support needs
You will have a caseload of 5 - 6 young people (could increase/decrease depending on workflow) and you will be making a huge difference in their lives.
To apply, you might be a recent graduate in a related degree such as psychology. Or you might have experience of working with young people with support needs, so could have worked as a tutor, teacher or learning support assistant or teaching assistant. You might have also worked as a support worker, hostel worker, careers advisor or employment advisor.
