- Job description 1- Protecting and enhancing East Anglia’s natural resources are unique and exciting challenges. We help people and wildlife adapt to climate change, work to reduce the impacts of flooding, drought, rising sea levels and coastal erosion. Nationally, we are investing £5.2 billion between 2021 and 2027 to reduce flood risk to hundreds of thousands more properties.
Helping achieve the Environment Agency’s net zero ambitions, this will be a key role within the team, to successfully manage and review carbon budgets and report progress across the Capital Programme. You'll work closely with colleagues across multiple teams to understand the contributions of project delivery to the carbon targets, supporting the development and continuous improvement of carbon reporting tools.
You will monitor progress against targets and support data quality improvements to facilitate better decision making by governance boards. You will take a detail-orientated approach in reviewing the consistency, accuracy and compliance of carbon budget reports submitted by projects. You will work with various carbon-specific roles, drawing on their expertise, to balance the carbon emission tolerances.
The role is varied, draws upon transferrable skills, and includes (but is not limited to):

- Excellent data management skills and experience of interpreting large data sets.
- Responsibility for providing regular, accurate and timely updates on progress. Preparing, delivering reports and presentations for internal and external customers.
- Developing and improving data quality across projects through systems.
- Delivering training on work areas across Area teams.

- The team 1- The Area Programme Teams enable the delivery of the Environment Agency’s capital programme, protecting people, properties, and the environment from the effects of climate change. Working closely with colleagues and professional partners, we track spend and performance across a suite of projects ranging from the creation and maintenance of flood defence assets to environmental enhancements and Natural Flood Management. Managing and reporting on carbon budgets is a key aspect in project delivery.
- Experience/skills required 1- We are seeking someone with proven experience in Project and Programme Management and good data management skills.
Knowledge of managing and reporting carbon along with an understanding of carbon valuation, metrics, and benchmarking are desirable.
