BHRUT is one of the largest University Hospitals, providing acute care for over 700,000 people from across two main sites - King George Hospital and Queen’s Hospital) as well as community-based sites.

The Cardio-Respiratory Unit is a friendly, busy and rapidly expanding diagnostic unit. We offer a wide range of investigations including resting ECGs, 24 hour ECG and BP monitoring, Event Recording, Transthoracic, Transoesophageal and Stress Echocardiography, Pacemaker follow-up and a full range of Respiratory Function investigations.

We are looking for a forward thinking, enthusiastic individual to join our dedicated team of professionals working to the highest quality standards.

Applicants should be appropriately qualified and skilled in performing and reporting non-invasive cardiac diagnostic tests. You will have some experience with pacemaker follow-up and with transthoracic echocardiography and will be willing to work towards BSE Adult Transthoracic Echo Accreditation and/or BHRS exams.

Newly qualified Cardiac Physiologists are also welcome to apply. We would look to appoint you as a Band 5 and upgrade you to a Band 6 once you have met the competencies for the post.

To provide a high quality, appropriate and effective Cardio-Respiratory investigation service.

To supervise, guide and support all junior members of staff.

To be responsible for the organisation and delivery of an area of specialist responsibility as allocated by the Lead Cardiac Physiologist.

Under the leadership of our Chair, Jacqui Smith and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive we provide care for the residents of three diverse London boroughs. More than half of our 7,500 strong workforce are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups and most live in Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge. We also provide healthcare services to people in south west Essex, and specialist neurosciences services to the whole of the county.

Our services include all the major specialties of large acute hospitals, operating from two main sites - King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We also provide outpatient services at Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic and Harold Wood Polyclinic.

As we recover from Covid-19, we’re proud to be leading the way in reducing the time our patients wait to get the treatment they need. The pandemic provided the drive for our teams to innovate and change.

We know we have more work to do to improve waiting times for urgent and emergency care, and this will be one of the many benefits of our closer collaboration with Barts Health. Working with them and with all our partners across north east London, we will find a sustainable solution to enhance patient care.
