**Job description**:
The Change Team is responsible for the effective management of organisational change programmes across the Department for Transport. We manage a portfolio of exciting and ambitious programmes focussed on driving improvements in how the Department operates:

- One of the Department’s five Strategic Priorities, Be an Excellent Department, focused on ensuring DfT is an organisation which continuously improves its delivery, and where people feel well supported, are able to reach their potential, learn and enjoy working;
- Our commitment to becoming a more national organisation, moving roles out of London and into our offices across the country in support of the Government’s Places for Growth agenda through our Future DfT Programme;
- A review into the delivery of our Corporate Services to drive opportunities to deliver more effectively and efficiently

This role is part of the Change Team which reports to the HR Director for Change and Organisational Design. You will have Line Management responsibility and work closely with the wider team of 14 as well as key stakeholders across the whole HR function and with senior leaders across all of our Corporate Functions, the wider Department and our five Executive Agencies; the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), the Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA) and Active Travel England (ATE).

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a high-profile area which impacts everyone who works in the Department for Transport. As Head of the Change Management Office, you will drive our Change Programmes forward with effective change and programme management practices.

**Responsibilities**

Key accountabilities of the role include, but not limited to:

- Be responsible for leading the Change Management Office to drive forward our Change Programmes; Future DfT, Be an Excellent Department and Efficiencies Review.
- Interpret the programme strategies and translate them into targeted initiatives and achievable project deliverables.
- Ensure there are robust project management processes and tools in place, providing coaching and support to ensure these are fully utilised.
- Provide advice and guidance to the Programme Boards on Programme health, to make sure the Programme is operating effectively.
- Work in partnership across the HR function and wider business with senior, and key stakeholders in DfTc and its Agencies and Arm’s Length Bodies.

**About you**

To be successful in this role you will be a proactive, dynamic and motivated individual with great organisation and project skills. You will have experience of project, programme or programme management office management particularly related to business change / change management. You will have the ability to line manage, lead and motivate teams, matrix manage colleagues and develop capability in others. You have the experience of building effective relationships with colleagues and internal / external stakeholders at all levels to deliver. You will have the ability to think strategically about the work and respond to immediate and future needs.

**Additional Information**

A minimum of 40% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance.
