**Job description**:
Purpose

An exciting opportunity to join a new team in Ofgem to help build the energy system for the future - one that is resilient to climate change and extreme weather events.

Despite having the same legal standing as climate mitigation, climate adaptation is poorly understood and independent government advisors such as the Climate Change Committee and the National Infrastructure Commission identify that government and regulators are not doing enough and need to take urgent action to address climate risks.

Energy sector is no exception, with impacts such as Storm Arwen demonstrating the vulnerability of energy networks and system to extreme weather. These risks will increase over time as climate change will increase the severity and frequency of extreme weather, at the same time the transition to net zero will affect the vulnerability of the energy system to these changes. Delaying action further will lead to locking in costly impacts and risk delivery of net zero. Ofgem have many levers to drive the necessary changes and this role offers an exciting opportunity to lead and influence this important and urgent work.

After the initial deployment, you will have the opportunity to work flexibly across Ofgem as a member of your Profession, working on cross-Ofgem projects, and/or in teams that require your skills and expertise.

Key Responsibilities
- Responsibility to lead on economic analysis of the climate resilience programme to embed climate resilience into energy network/system, including contributing to recommendations to the team and senior leadership.
- Collaboratively work closely with other Ofgem teams and external stakeholders, especially those in government, industry and academia to ensure effective and timely delivery of projects, influence decisions/processes and resolve potential issues or regulatory barriers.
- Raising awareness of climate resilience, including climate risks, barriers and potential solutions both within Ofgem and more widely.
- Responsibility to proactively help identify new and emerging areas and opportunities for action.
- Develop and maintain relationships with a diverse network of contacts within energy sector and climate adaptation/resilience communities.
- Working with government advisors and other experts to influence the climate adaptation statutory cycle (such as Climate Change Risk Assessment) and other research outputs to ensure they are useful and usable for energy sector.
- Responsible for coordinating and managing work across Ofgem, to help ensure a coherent approach, and timely delivery.
