**Vulnerable children in the UK need your help**

Wherever you work in the Action for Children family, you'll be helping to change the lives of the most vulnerable children in the UK.

Last year, we helped more than 670,000 children and families across the UK. From direct work in communities to national campaigning, we are focused on making sure every child has a safe and happy childhood, and the foundations they need to thrive.

**Why Action for Children?**

Working here is more than a job. Everyone in the Action for Children family is passionate about protecting and supporting children. It's the sense of purpose that drives us every single day. Because we know that, when we work together, we can make a huge difference to bring lasting improvements to vulnerable children's lives.

**A bit about the role**

Our Residential Support Worker is an entry level role where you don't need previous experience or qualifications, we're looking for a positive attitude and the desire to give the best care to children and young people. This is a great opportunity to get your ‘foot in the door' and allows you to explore the field of Social Care and decide if it's the right fit for you, whilst gaining practical experience.

You'll create a safe and supportive environment for children and young people to grow and develop, ensuring wellbeing is prioritised by delivering personalised care, guidance and advocacy. It's key that they stay safe and healthy and can reach their full potential.

In return we'll offer you amazing opportunities to progress within our organisation. We offer an in-depth induction process and training. Alongside this, we'll enrol you in the qualifications which you need to work in the industry, regular supervision with your line manager, team meetings etc. will ensure you feel part of our team.

Once you've gained the relevant experience and qualifications you'll be ready to progress to the next step in your career with us.

**About the service**

Ty Laura Short Breaks is a 5-bedded residential service which provides short breaks for children and young people aged 5-17 with complex health and or additional learning needs.

As a Residential Support Worker, you'll join the friendly team to provide overnight support to children and young people within the home and access the local community. At Ty Laura we see the individual and their capabilities not their disability.

**How you'll help to create brighter futures**

You'll be engaging in enjoyable activities both within the project and within the community. You'll be assuming responsibility for the personal care and daily routines of the young individuals, providing support with personal hygiene, communication, administering of medication and ensuring the safeguarding of our young people by accurate recording and reporting.

**Let's talk about you**

Don't worry if you've never worked in a similar role before, it's your personality and personal values that matter. If you're passionate about creating brighter futures, this could be the perfect role for you.

Ideally you'll:

- Understand how to engage with young people.
- Have a positive approach and ‘can do' attitude.
- Ability to work on your own or as part of a team.
- Be ready to complete a level 3 in Residential Childcare within 2 years of commencing employment with us, full support will be provided.

**Good to know**

As a non-profit organization, we are committed to the recent update from the Welsh Government in relation to **‘eliminating private profit from the care of children looked after**'.
- “80% of care homes in Wales are run by the private sector. _Our aim is to ensure that public money invested in the care of children looked after does not profit individuals or corporate entities, but is wholly spent on children's services to deliver better experiences and outcomes for children and young people, supporting service development and improvement and further professional development for staff.”_

By 2027, they aim to have the care of children who are looked after in Wales, to be provided by the public Sector and charitable or non-profile organisations.
