Children and Young People's Advocacy Worker

**Job Purpose**
CEA operates an Integrated 3 stage Trauma Recovery Model and whilst all staff are expected to work across these areas the particular focus of this post is Stage Three, Community Management.
The purpose of this post is to provide an independent advocacy service to the families of women and men who have experienced domestic abuse, and are assessed to be at risk and possibly at risk of repeat victimisation. The post holder will work directly with clients, in conjunction with MARAC colleagues on a short to medium term basis. They will also formally advocate for Children and Young People within professional advocacy settings providing an accurate reflection of the views and wishes of the clients they represent to ensure a coordinated community response.
The post holder will also carry a case load of those clients who are at high risk with non-abusing parents within the formal MARAC process or about to enter the Children’s Hearing process and or discussion regarding contact arrangements with abusing parent.
Key to the role will be supporting children in their initial crisis for an intensive time limited period and providing safety planning, practical, emotional and signposting support.
**Key Tasks**
1. To participate in The Forth Valley MARAC together with all partner agencies, providing input, advice and interventions as requested and agreed. To ensure that interventions are offered, recorded and actioned within agreed timescales and to ensure that such information is fed back to MARAC at subsequent meetings.
2. Contact families referred to MARAC (with appropriate consent) by telephone or in person; offer crisis intervention; explain the MARAC process and sensitively gather information about the child/ young person’s views.
3. To work within Child Protection Guidelines and recognise when cause for concern have been raised and to take appropriate safe guarding action with Social Services and other relevant agencies.
4. To sign post children and young people to additional or alternative services where appropriate and to ensure a full and effective handover to such agencies.
5. To undertake thorough and rigorous risk assessment and to share such information with other agencies on a need to know basis and within the terms of Information Sharing Protocols.
6. To put in place a variety of measures to ensure that children and young people feel safe and able to attend court hearings. In particular, arrange directly, or with others, Court Visits and if needed arrange the Special Measures necessary to support safe attendance.
7. To deliver group and one to one support for children and young people using the existing group work and also develop and deliver new group work where appropriate.
8. To undertake close joint work with the Children and Young Person’s Service with CEA to ensure that referrals are made and received appropriately, including joint assessment and the development of joint support plans and joint evaluation and review.
9. To provide training and development for other organisations in relation to advocacy and the legal framework and guidelines which support it.
10. To provide support to other areas of CEA as appropriate and requested by Line Managers.
11. To maintain accurate, appropriate and professional case notes and support plans which articulate current progress and priorities.
12. To retain timely and current monitoring information relating to agreed service outcomes.
13. To identify with clients key priorities and success criteria as part of their recovery and the ability to review success criteria and where appropriate re-negotiate preferred outcomes and timeframes are key to the success of this work.
14. Ability to write and provide reports for relevant agencies and meetings.
15. Maintain accurate manual and computer based client records (in accordance with data protection).
16. To work in partnership with other agencies and those to whom referrals may be made.
17. To maintain own knowledge skills and development.
