Senior Estimator

WIG Engineering Ltd was first founded in November 1975 as a small engineering firm in the agricultural sector, which has now grown into a successful SME, fabricating and installing Steel Framed Buildings in the Oxfordshire countryside near Bicester. As longstanding members of BCSA, we are assessed and certified for medium sized, Execution Class 2 contracts and have the capability, commitment, organisation and highly skilled and experienced personnel required to produce structural steelwork and architectural metalwork. Since 2014, we have been ISO 9001 certified and hold UKCA marking alongside our CAS and SSIP certification. We have recently improved our sustainability policy and have gained the Silver award for the BCSA's Sustainability Charter which will give our Staff, Customers, Suppliers and Local Community the knowledge that we are working hard towards the UK's Carbon Net Zero target.
**Responsibilities**:
- **Project Estimation**:
- Conduct detailed quantity take-offs and material assessments from project drawings or bills of quantities along with specifications.
- Analyse project requirements and develop accurate cost estimates for structural steel components, fabrication, and installation.
- **Bid Preparation**:
- Prepare comprehensive bid proposals, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Collaborate with colleagues to gather relevant information and costs for bid submissions.
- **Supplier and Subcontractor Management**:
- Source and evaluate potential suppliers and subcontractors for materials and services.
- Negotiate pricing and terms with suppliers to ensure cost-effective solutions.
- **Cost Analysis**:
- Monitor and analyse project costs throughout the estimation and execution phases.
- Provide regular cost updates to management.
- **Collaboration**:
- Work closely with colleagues, project managers, engineers, and main contractors to understand project requirements and constraints.
- Participate in pre-contract meetings and post-contract negotiations as necessary.
**Qualifications**:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Structural Steel/Architectural metalwork Estimator.
- Strong knowledge of structural steel components, fabrication processes, and industry standards.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
- Excellent analytical and mathematical skills.
- Effective communication and negotiation skills.
- Microsoft Office Suite.
**Education**:No formal qualifications required but a background in the steelwork industry and construction management, or a related field is preferred. Proficient in estimating software is a desirable.
