Head of Pastoral

**Overview**:
Carfax College is looking to appoint a Head of Pastoral, responsible for supporting the Principal in the strategic development of the College, working closely with all staff for Student Welfare and Development.
As a key member of the College, we are looking for a dynamic and dedicated individual, with a passion for delivering excellent outcomes to children, young people and their families.
Carfax College is an independent College, focused on providing 1-1 and very small group tuition in preparation for public exams or for competitive entrance exams into UK independent sector. It offers a mixture of long-term and short-term, full-time and part-time courses for pupils.
**Main Duties**:
- The Head of Pastoral will be responsible for ensuring students’ welfare needs are met;
- Be the appointed Designated Safeguarding Lead at the College;
- Provide high-profile leadership and management to ensure the day-to-day operation of the College;
- Provide high-quality support to students on a one-to-one, as well as target group basis, both through your own contact with students and through managing the quality of the services and support of others as identified by the Principal;
- Provide high-quality support to parents/carers both through your own contact and through managing the quality of the services and support of others as identified by your Principal;
- To ensure all legal, statutory, LA and school policies are followed in all areas within your responsibility;
- To be responsible for day-to-day management of the inclusion centre ensuring effective and efficient systems are in place, reviewing procedures as necessary;
- To work alongside the pastoral team and other colleagues in the College to ensure maximum support is provided to students and staff;
- To be flexible in your approach in order to meet the circumstances of the day;
- To ensure the behaviour support centre is stocked with appropriate levelled resources for all students;
- Work with the Principal to produce and deliver the school’s development plan and SEF within the framework of the College;
- Lead, manage and monitor the quality of student welfare and development support and its effectiveness and impact on standards;
- Identifying and responding as appropriate to the training and development needs of staff with regards to student welfare and development;
- Implement the College’s strategy for student tracking and intervention with regards to support for welfare and development;
- Maintain an overview of the support that all students are offered;
- Review and evaluate the quality of support that students are offered;
- Manage, support and monitor the work of a team (College based and external agencies) to ensure that effective support is in place to support the needs of students;
- Contribute as appropriate to the College’s processes for assessment recording and reporting;
- Work closely with the College’s leadership team to monitor the quality of every student’s one to one mentor, coach and/or progress review experience;
- Work closely and co-operatively with the College’s leadership team to ensure that students’ needs are identified and met;
- Liaise with parents/carers to maximise the support and resources available to all students;
- Liaise where appropriate with external agencies and the wider community to maximise the support and resources available to all students.
**Safeguarding**:
- Referring all cases of suspected abuse of any pupil at the school to the Local Authority children's Social Care, ensuring that a response is received and recorded;
- Ensuring teachers fulfil their statutory duties of referring all confirmed cases of female genital mutilation performed on a pupil to the police, as per legal requirements and keeping records of these referrals and subsequent actions;
- Supporting other staff who have made referrals to Local Authority children’s social care;
- Taking part in strategy discussions and inter-agency meetings and/or supporting other staff to do so, and to contribute to the assessment of children;
- Referring cases where there is a radicalisation concern;
- Making referrals to the Disclosure and Barring Service where a member of staff is dismissed or resigns in circumstances where there has been actual harm, or risk of harm, to a child;
- Making referrals to the police where a crime may have been committed which involves a child;
- Undertaking early help assessments for identified pupils and their families and acting as lead professional where appropriate;
- Maintaining accurate and organised records of all welfare and child protection concerns brought to the attention of the school by staff, members of the public or other professionals;
- Acting as a source of support, advice and expertise to staff on matters of safety and safeguarding and when deciding whether to make a referral by liaising with the relevant agencies;
