**POST OF**: OPHTHALMOLOGY CLINICAL FELLOW

We have 4 OPHTHALMOLOGY clinical fellowships ( 2 x 6 months & 2 x 12 months ) available at the Oxford Eye Hospital based at the John Radcliffe Hospitalfor maternity leave cover for ophthalmology trainees.

**PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES**:
Clinical

The postholder’s duties will be primarily at theJohn Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford,but their presence may from time-to-time be required in other parts of the Trust, such as the Horton Hospital in Banbury or Wantage Community Hospital.

Teaching/Research/Audit

Clinical Governance

The post-holder will participate in clinical governance activities, including appraisal, clinical audit, clinical effectiveness, risk management, quality improvement activities as required by the Trust, and external accrediting bodies. The post holder will be expected to be involved in development of clinical and organizational protocols.

As well as providing for general ophthalmic needs of the local population, OEH receives tertiary and quaternary referrals of complex disease across all subspecialties so that Fellows can expect a broad exposure across medical and surgical ophthalmology as well as eye emergencies. The Oxford Eye Hospital is a fully equipped department with modern retinal imaging with a dedicated eye emergency department with 26 consultants covering all subspecialties.

These are not posts that are approved for training by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.

General

The post-holder will assume a continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge and the proper functioning of his/her department. Office accommodation and secretarial support is available for this post.

Facilities for Study and Training

Good library facilities are available at the John Radcliffe and at other libraries in central Oxford hospitals.

Teaching, Audit & Research

Active participation in audit, clinical trials and research is an essential requirement of NHS clinical governance unit and would be expected.

On-call commitment

There is a formal on call commitment.

IMPORTANT GENERALNOTE

The post-holder must take reasonable care of his/her own health and safety and any other personnel who may be affected by his/her omission. Trust policies and regulations must be followed at all times.

Annual and study leave arrangements must be co-coordinated within the department to ensure there is an acceptable level of cover.
