An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the ward clerk team on ward 33 and 33a at the Glenfield Hospital

Both Ward 33 and 33a are Cardiology wards

33 has 29 monitored beds and has a high turn over of patients. Working hours will be two 10 hour days Monday and Thursday 7.30 till 18.30

33a ins a 20 bedded ward who has longer staying patients. Working Hours will be two 7.5 hour Days Thursday and Friday 7.30 to 15.30

You will be responsible for answering the telephone, dealing with enquiries, admitting patients Patient Centre, transferring patients to other wards on Patient Centre, discharging patients, filing and making up sets of notes. Ordering stationary and other equipment needed by the ward.

Using the Trust’s IT system, ensure that the patient’s case notes and documents are available on the ward for the patients stay.

To maintain all filing up-to-date.

Ensure that patient’s notes are complete for ward rounds.

To book in and out medical notes on the Patient Centre system - training will be arranged.

To trace patients on Patient Centre. If the patient cannot be found, register the patient using the completed admission form.

To source and retrieve patient case notes from within the Trust and from other hospitals, liaising with the Medical Records Department as appropriate, checking and updating patients and GP details when received, to ensure accuracy and minimise errors.

Ensure addressograph labels are available and attached to all medical and nursing notes, charges and prescription sheets.

Enter accurate and timely patient information on Patient Centre ensuring accurate clinical coding.

To act as a Ward Receptionist by dealing with enquiries from patients, relatives or friends under the direction of the Ward Manager.

To answer the telephone, ensuring that all enquiries about patients are passed on to the relevant member of staff

To collect and take ward mail to the Post Room as required.

Open all ward mail unless marked confidential and give to the ward sister

To cover annual leave/sickness on other wards/departments as required within the Directorate.

To keep the notes trolleys clean and tidy.

Attend ward clerk meetings as appropriate.

Maintain an effective filing and bring forward system.
