Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has a Band 3 vacancy for an Assistant Technical Officer in the Respiratory/Sleep Physiology Department and we would love you to join us.

This is an opportunity for a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual to join this friendly and professional team. We are a busy department providing a wide range of investigations in both Respiratory and Sleep.

We are looking for someone who has great interpersonal skills and the ability to clearly communicate with members of the public and other professionals in a courteous way.

It is desirable that you possess the ARTP Spirometry certificate., but training will be given if needed. You will need to be computer literate and possess good communication skills. Ongoing training will be provided where necessary. The trust actively promotes personal development.
- To loan therapeutic and diagnostic equipment in the sleep investigation unit
- Undertake therapy initiation and implements clinical care package for CPAP therapy.
- To assist in the running of the follow up sleep therapy clinic
- To provide an outpatient spirometry service for all chest clinics.
- To set up and download sleep studies
- To assist with general laboratory duties and administration e.g. maintenance of stock levels, waiting lists
- To ensure accurate records of all patient investigations and attendances
- To make patient appointments and deal with telephone enquiries, taking appropriate action.
- To liaise with hospital staff of all grades and provide information as required and, if necessary, refer to a more senior member of staff.
- To develop and maintain knowledge of department computer systems.
- Collect and record calibration and quality control data to ensure that equipment is functioning to agreed standards and specifications and is documented.
- Undertake maintenance and cleaning of laboratory equipment.
- Accurately record observations and produce technical reports on the range of tests performed.
- Testing patients of all ages in a variety of locations. This will involve communicating complex instructions and clinical information effectively to patients of all ages and relatives to ensure cooperation and compliance and to obtain accurate technical and clinical data.
- Demonstrate own duties to new/junior staff

The department is situated in out-patients in the Chest Clinic. We are a team of 4 qualified physiologists, 4 support practitioners and 2 administrative assistants.

This is an exciting time to join our team as we are expanding and developing diagnostic services in Community Hubs.

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is situated on the west coast of Lancashire, and offers a full range of district hospital services and community health services to a population of 1.6 million in Lancashire and South Cumbria.
