**The role**

We are seeking an experienced strategic communications specialist to effectively contribute to brand building and strategic development for clients within the mining sector in French-speaking African countries, including but not limited to Madagascar and Guinea. The role requires bilingual capability, with client engagement and content development in English and French, and involves regular travel (at least once per month) to the project sites.

**The ideal profile**:

- Strong bilingual strategic communications track record, with proven ability to design and deliver effective positioning strategies and engagement campaigns.
- Experience working for or advising companies within the natural resources sector in a corporate development and communications role.
- Comprehensive understanding of corporate communications functions and responsibilities relating to internal and external stakeholders, and familiarity with common procedures, including disclosure and market information obligations for listed companies.
- Experience working in Francophone Africa and motivated by the opportunity to travel regularly (5 to 10 working days per month).
- Nuanced understanding of how the political economy impacts mining projects and ability to advise clients on engagement with policymakers, civil society, communities and other stakeholders.
- Solid understanding of the mining sector, including policy and regulatory issues, technical processes and commercial dynamics.
- Proven track record of effective stakeholder consultation and engagement at national, regional and community levels
- Nuanced understanding of environmental and social issues and proven ability to create and disseminate evidence-based and engaging content on these topics relevant to diverse audiences
- Familiarity with international sustainability frameworks such as the IFC Performance Standards
- Ability to manage client relationships in a complex environment, with international and local teams
- Rigorous attention to detail, ability to work independently, prioritise effectively under time pressure and meet deadlines

**Role responsibilities**
- Project management_
- Serve as the Project Manager for consulting assignments, managing client relationships and ensuring effective and efficient delivery by the consulting team
- Set the highest standards for delivery and hold accountability for quality and timely execution and monitoring, evaluation and learning
- Strategic communications_
- Develop communications strategies and plans designed to enable the client’s business strategy
- Build compelling narratives and key messaging to articulate the client’s position on relevant issues and to keep stakeholders informed about clients’ activities and progress.
- Collaborate effectively with the client’s in-house team to ensure the successful delivery of communications plans, quality control on content and event management
- Advise on the incorporation of international ESG best practices to stakeholder engagement planning and consultations with local communities and ensure this is reflected in the design and implementation of community and environmental programmes and the development of all communications content
- Develop and maintain a database of key information and messaging on the project to guide the development of content
- Produce compelling, evidence-based content in English and French (e.g. press releases, presentations, talking points and speeches, Q&A and social media posts)
