The priority work Natural England is delivering includes:
Establishing a Nature Recovery Network to help wildlife thrive
Monitoring environmental changes to identify and help reduce the effects of climate change
Working with farmers and landowners to develop greener food production methods
Advising on plans for new developments to maximise gains for nature
Providing ways for people to better connect with nature, including green social prescribing
We are the Government’s advisor for the natural environment, playing a vital role in delivering the
Government’s 25 Year Environment Plan, an ambitious vision which brings new opportunities to protect
and enhance and to achieve real outcomes for the environment.

Our area stretches for 200 miles from the Isles of Scilly to Minehead and covers both land and sea. The
quality of our environment underpins our food, farming and tourism industries, and is reflected in polls
that place Exeter and Falmouth as some of the best places to live in the UK. We have one upland
National Park, Dartmoor, as well as a second major upland area, Bodmin Moor. Two World Heritage Sites
celebrate the mining heritage across Cornwall and West Devon, and the rich geology of the Jurassic
Coast in East Devon. We are surrounded by spectacular coast and island communities, much of which is
recognised through marine protected area designation and as Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The wet and warm climate makes our woodlands superb homes for mosses, lichens and ferns and they’ve
been likened to temperate rainforests. We own and manage some of these special places as National
Nature Reserves (NNRs) on Bodmin Moor, Goss Moor and Dartmoor. On Britain’s most southern
peninsula, our Lizard NNR has a host of nationally rare plants including wild relatives of commercial
crops.

The Team is responsible for delivering environmental outcomes across Devon, Cornwall & Isles of Scilly.
The team uses a range of mechanisms including land management, marine and planning advice,
engagement with stakeholders and direct management of our own land, to achieve the protection and
enhancement of biodiversity and landscapes.

As a Team we aim to work flexibly, supporting each other and others across the region to increase
awareness and appreciation of our landscapes and wildlife. Our successful delivery of nature recovery
will rely on us working differently by better explaining the benefits people derive from our special marine
environment, fantastic landscapes and rich wildlife heritage to help local communities grow and nurture
connection with nature.

Job description

**Description of the Farm Environment Adviser Role**

These roles will drive nature recovery through farm advice within Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. The need for advice to help farmers and land managers has never been greater or more urgent. Achieving the Government’s Environmental Improvement Plan targets are dependent on greener farming.

Our advice role is continuing to evolve in response to new opportunities and challenges, so we will support post holders to grow their skills to cover new schemes, and emerging priorities such as air quality, flood risk mitigation, net zero and wider carbon management.

**Key Tasks/Principal Accountabilities**
- Engage with farmers and other land managers to drive forward nature recovery, providing advice in relation to ongoing and new opportunities such as Environmental Land Management schemes, Slurry Investment Grant, England Woodland Creation Offer and Biodiversity Net Gain.
